What We Know About Star Wars: Battlefront II So Far
/During Holy Week's weekend, Star Wars Celebration was in full swing. As promised, we get our first look at Star Wars: Battlefront II, and finally, a story to go through, and it looks like an original one too.
Trailer looks cool, but what else is confirmed for the sequel? Here's what we know so far.
There Will Be A Single Player Campaign
Here's the kicker though - you play as a hero of the Empire. During most of the campaign, You play as Iden Versio, an elite TIE Fighterpilot, and spec ops soldier that commands Inferno Squad. The campaign is set right after the events of Return of the Jedi, and it starts with Iden and her team witnessing the destruction of the Death Star II. This, according to Lucasfilm, is canon. It's a solid concept and it's great that games are now included in expanding the Star Wars Universe within the original trilogy. For those hoping to play more known characters, in a report by Polygon, you'll get to play as Luke Skywalker for at least one mission.
Offline Mode is Exclusive To Consoles
When we say Offline Mode, we are talking about local split-screen. This is really not much of a shocker considering that split-screen works best on consoles anyway. What's interesting is the ability to transfer what you unlocked during your offline session to online multiplayer. Split-screen co-op for PC isn't ideal, so it's not much of a loss to those that are opting to play Battlefront II on PC.
Pre-Order Details
It won't feel much like an EA game without detailed information on what you'll get if you pre-order Star Wars: Battlefront II's Deluxe Edition. Here's what you'll get according to EA:

Space Battles Up To 24 Players
In the first game, the space battles were there but felt empty. Play it once and you'll most likely stick to the group during most of your time with the game. Thankfully, they are amping up the space battles by allowing up to 24 players to participate battles in space.
Battlefront II Will Have Classes, Plus A New System To Become A Hero In The Battle
In the first game, there were no classes. Customization were only done with a card system changing your gear and equipment. Now, it feels like the return of a class system will give some sense of a role to a player in the battlefield. Classes were not defined as of yet but the only classes mentioned during the weekend were Specialists and Troopers. Heroes will be customizable to some extent. There's no specifics regarding this but you'll be able to tweak your Luke a bit, but don't expect any big changes available for each hero.
Speaking of heroes, Star Wars: Battlefront II will feature a new way to earn and become an iconic hero in the battlefield. In the first game, it would simply be a token you can pick up that spawns randomly in the Battlefield. So, only a lucky few gets to play around with Dark Vader's lightsaber. The new system for the sequel will be some sort of 'resource based system'. Not much information was given, but it looks like they will replace the random chance of becoming a hero to players slowing earning it by performing well in the field. A more preferred choice, i'd say.
There Will Be No Season Pass for Star Wars: Battlefront II... Maybe?
You're probably confused, it's only natural since we are talking about Season Pass after all, but this is an on-going story, so stay tuned. In an interview with Mashable, Bernd Dierner, the creative director on Battlefront 2, said: "We don't have a season pass.". Rejoice! But soon after, EA has responded to such claims and threw this response:
"While we’re not ready to confirm any live service plans just yet, what we can say is this we heard the feedback from our Battlefront community loud and clear. We know they want more depth, more progression, and more content. So we’re focused on delivering that in every dimension of Star Wars Battlefront 2. We’ll have more to share about our plans soon. "
So with that safe and proper response, don't get all that excited just yet. The developer and publisher are well aware that post-content found in Season Pass has the tendancy of dividing communities, that's why Titanfall 2 was well-received thanks to them ditching any paid service for post content, and just giving upcoming updates to the game for free.
Let's continue to hope for the best as they reveal more about Battlefront II.
Star Wars: Battlefront is looking to have promising changes for the sequel. I'm not that excited for the game's release later this year just yet since I wasn't too happy with the reboot, but it's a good start.
Star Wars: Battlefront II will be out on November 17, 2017 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
