Final Fantasy XVI Will Be a PS5 Exclusive for the First Six Months, According to Sony

A new promotional video went live this week and revealed that Square Enix’s next entry in the Final Fantasy series Final Fantasy XVI, will be a PS5 exclusive only for the first six months after it launches. The RPG is currently slated for a Summer 2023 release.

The detail of Final Fantasy XVI’s exclusivity was never confirmed officially but its exclusivity for the PlayStation system was always mentioned during promotional ads. For long? Apparently, for six months, according to a new PS5 ad which you can watch below. The six months exclusivity is mentioned in the 15 second mark.

Does this mean that after six months we just might see an Xbox version released sometime early 2024? We have no idea at this moment but either Square Enix or Sony have made it crystal clear on Final Fantasy XVI’s platforms beyond the PS5.

With Final Fantasy 7 Remake (still not out on Xbox) now on Steam a year after it was released on the PS4. and the upcoming remaster Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion launching on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC alongside the PlayStation systems this December 13, Final Fantasy XVI launching on PC or Xbox feels like a possibility at this point.

Final Fantasy XVI isn’t the only title in Sony’s video ad that mentions PS5 console exclusivity as the video also notes that Square Enix’s upcoming new title Forspoken will be a PS5 console exclusive for at least 2 years after it launches on January 24, 2023. (mentioned in the 20 second mark)
