Enhanced Port of Original Clocktower Game Announced for Consoles and PC
/Publishers WayForward and Limited Run Games announced that they are working on an enhanced version of the Super Famicom survival horror game Clock Tower. This version is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (through Steam).
This is the first time the game will be fully transalted not only for English but for multiple languages as the original game was never given a Western or European release.
This enhanced port is still the original Super Famicom game that was released in 1995 by heart as it will still be set in the Barrows family manor and you play as Jennifer Simpson, a teenager by Scissorman equipped with a large….well, scissors. You’ll have to avoid the crazed man by hiding or running as she explore the manor, find items, and uncover the place’s secrets.
The game will be made through Mimited Run Games’ Carbon Engine as the port will include modern features and enhancements without touching the game’s core gameplay and graphics. This port will also feature a new vocal theme song by Mary McGylnn, a new animated opening, motion-comic cutscenes before and after the game, a bonus art gallery, border artwork, save states, multiple language options, and more.
Here’s a rundown of the game’s features coming from the publisher.
Key Features
A survival-horror classic, officially translated and brought out of Japan for the first time
Run, hide, and survive as you attempt to evade the psychotic Scissorman
Atmospheric 2D art, detailed animations, and haunting sound effects
Multiple endings and randomized gameplay elements maximize replayability (and jump scares)
New animated opening, motion-comic cutscenes, and vocal theme song performed by Mary McGlynn
Art gallery, save states, and other modern enhancements
The Clock Tower series has been left dormant for years as the last title that as released was Clock Tower 3 for the PS2 back in 2002. But it’s good that the series is getting some love as the original game that started it all will get a modern port, making the game available and not lost in time. Hopefully, this triggers enough interest for the series’ revival.
This will be music to the ears of kids who grew up on the series, but for the uninitiated, there’s nothing quite like the Mario & Luigi games. Mario & Luigi Brothership does its best to appeal to a wide range of players with charming presentation and a strong new Battle Plug system, but not everyone will be enamored with its reflex-testing gameplay.
