The Cycle: Frontier is officially shutting down for good on September 27
/It was a solid start for developer Yager’s high-risk shooter The Cycle: Frontier, but after three seasons, and the constant dwindling of its player base, they have made the announcement to shut down the game for good on September 27, 2023. The game is over a year old.
To begin the shutdown process, all real money purchases will be disabled on June 28. From now until September 27, players can still enjoy the game in its currenc state with an acceleration to overall progression and a 95% discount to daily and weekly in-game offers
The season 3 Fortuna Pass will also be given to all players for free upon their next login. As for refunds, the developers will be issuing refunds to players that have spend on the game in the last 14 days (from June 14 to June 28).
The patch that was released recently is now considered the final update for the game.
Here’s a message from the team at Yager regarding the shutdown.
Working on The Cycle: Frontier has been an invaluable experience for YAGER. We were presented with the amazing opportunity to work on a unique project and on a large-scale online game. We also were fortunate to make the acquaintance and talk to many of you, to countless players, creators, and other developers.
This experience will not go to waste, of that we can assure you. We are making sure to learn as much as we can from everything that went right and, perhaps more importantly, from all our mistakes and shortcomings.
We will now shift our focus to new projects using all the valuable experience, learnings, and feedback we’ve gathered. Make sure to sign up to our newsletter, follow our official Steam page, and to keep an eye on our official website.
One very last point we want to mention: we are incredibly grateful for all your support and dedication. We do think we’ve created something beautiful but none of this would, or even could, have happened without each and every one of you. We are proud of our community, wish you all the best in your future endeavors and we hope to see you all again. Enjoy your time on Fortuna III and, as always, and now more than ever, don’t forget...
… Fortuna Favors the Bold!
It’s sad to see another free-to-play title that was a good entry point for those that want to get into the high-risk shooter formula that was made famous by Escape from Tarkov as The Cycle showed a lot of potential during its first few Closed Beta phases. Popularity rose but once the game was officially out and season 1 began, cheaters ran rampant, and decisions made to turn things around didn’t work as we saw a quick decline in players as the months go by.
In Season 3, they made a heavy decision to remove character wipes, but this no longer matters as there will be no season beyond the third.
The Cycle Frontier officially launched on June 8, 2022, through Steam.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
