Metal Gear Survive Announced At Gamescom 2016

Konami revealed a new Metal Gear game at Gamescom 2016 and it's not what we were expecting at all. A 4-player cooperative game that is set in an alternate universe following the conclusion of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, where you play as the surviving soldiers of Mother Base fending off creatures literally out of this world.

We are confused with this direction, but it's happening.

Events of Metal Gear Solid V hasn't happened, and soldiers get transported into an alternate world to survive. In a press conference from Konami, there will be new weapons "to combat charging creatures and lethal environments". This is definitely a new take at the Metal Gear Solid franchise. This will be the first game without Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series.

Last year, Konami and Hideo Kojima parted ways after work on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was compete. Polygon has full details on the breakup between one of the big faces in the industry and Konami, which made a big shift as a company.

Metal Gear Survive will be an interesting project to keep an eye on next year, to see how Konami will treat a beloved franchise such as Meta Gear without the guidance of the developer that helped craft what it is today.
