Dead by Daylight Roots of Dread chapter revealed

Behaviour Interactive announced the latest chapter for their popular asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight during their 6th anniversary livestream. It’s called Roots of Dread and features a new survivor Haddie Kaur, a new Killer The Dredge, and a new map.

The new Killer The Dredge is refreshing to see as it’s literally a monster that is made out of various limbs, presumably from his previous victims. The creature has the ability to teleport from one locker to another to go around the map. When Survivors play against The Dredge, they have the option to lock a locker once in a match, so that if The Dredge tries to exit from a locked locker, it will take a few more seconds for it to come out, ideally to give Survivors near the area more time to get out of the area. If the Dredge sees a locked locker, you can destroy the lock with a single swing.

It also has a unique mechanic called Nightfall which makes the match darker, supposedly hindering the survivor’s vision while making The Dredge more effective as he will be undetectable and that his teleport ability is shorter with no cooldown.

Here are the three perks from The Dredge.

  • Dissolution: Three seconds after injuring a survivor by any means, Dissolution activates for 12/16/20 seconds. While Dissolution is active, if a survivor fast vaults over a pallet inside of your Terror Radius, the Entity will break the pallet at the end of the vault, and Dissolution deactivates.

  • Darkness Revealed: When you open a locker, the auras of all Survivors within eight meters of any lockers are revealed to you for three/four/five seconds. This perk has a 30-second cooldown.

  • Septic Touch: Whenever a Survivor performs the healing action within your Terror Radius, they suffer from Blindness and Exhaustion. These effects linger for 6/8/10 seconds after a healing action is interrupted by any means.

This new chapter also introduces the Survivor Haddie Kaur. Not much details were given about this survivor but here are the perks she’ll add to the game when she goes live in public servers.

  • Inner Focus: You can see other Survivors’ scratch marks within 32 meters of you. Whenever another Survivor loses a health state within 32 meters of you, the Killer’s aura is revealed to you for 5 seconds.

  • Residual Manifest: After a successful Killer Blind action, the Killer is affected by the Blindness effect for 30 seconds. This perk grants the ability to rummage through an opened chest once per trial and will guarantee a basic Flashlight.

  • Overzealous: After cleaning any Totem, this perk activates. Your generator repair speed is increased by 6%. This perk deactivates when you lose a health state by any means.

Just like previous Dead by Daylight chapters, when revealed, the new Survivor and Killer and various changes go live in the game’s Public Test Build, so you can give the new map and all of the new content from Roots of Dread right now. This chapter is planned to release on all platforms on June 7.

Other announcements

This isn’t the only reveal that happened during the 6th anniversary stream as Behaviour also announced a Dead by Daylight dating sim, where you get to date one of the many killers in the game. Why? I have no idea but if that’s your thing it will be out this Summer via Steam.

The developers also announced major changes coming to the game as they plan to rework around 40 killer and survivor perks to refresh the game and hopefully add more build variety, especially for skilled players who run the same perk loadout every match.

In the PTB (public test build), not only will you be able to try out the new Roots of Dread chapter, a new preset feature will be available to test out. This allows players to create custom loadouts with their preferred perks and outfits for both killers and survivors. The time spent rebuilding a specific look and set of perks will be a thing of the past in the near future if this feature goes live in public servers.

Behaviour also announced a collaboration with Attack on Titan, so expect skins based on the popular anime to come to the game soon.

Additionally, they also announced that Dead by Daylight will expand their take on the Resident Evil franchise as another chapter based on that world is coming later this year and will be called Resident Evil: Project W Chapter.
