New Doom: The Dark Ages Trailer Explores the Cosmic Realm and Brutal New Enemies
/A fresh trailer for Doom: The Dark Ages has arrived, offering our best look yet at the mysterious Cosmic Realm, a new dimension introduced in id Software’s latest entry in the legendary shooter series. Game director Hugo Martin teases that this new setting is part of a bigger narrative twist—one where the forces of Hell form an unholy alliance with beings from beyond the stars.
While we still don’t know why Hell and the Cosmic Realm are teaming up, Martin hints that players will uncover the truth during the campaign. In the meantime, the trailer gives us a glimpse at new enemy designs and gameplay mechanics that take full advantage of this bizarre fusion of realms.
New Enemy Types: Cosmic Baron and Dimensional Cacodemon
Among the most striking additions shown is the Cosmic Baron, a fearsome twin-blade brute who mixes devastating melee attacks with psionic ranged strikes. Another standout is a new take on the classic Cacodemon, altered by the two dimensions and now capable of launching shield-like psionic projectiles. Players will need to dodge these mid-combat, almost as if navigating a mini traversal challenge in the middle of a fight.
So far, Doom: The Dark Ages looks built around standing your ground and closing the distance.
New Weapon Reveal – The Reaver Shot
The trailer also introduces a brand-new weapon: the Reaver Shot. It’s a ranged-melee hybrid that launches a chained ball toward enemies before quickly reeling it back in. You can charge the shot for a more powerful strike, making it ideal for The Dark Ages’ aggressive, close-quarters combat focus.
id Software is taking a bold new approach with this installment. Unlike Doom (2016) or Doom Eternal, where speed, mobility, and verticality defined the action, The Dark Ages grounds players—literally. The Doom Slayer is always equipped with a shield, and vertical movement is minimal. This time, the game emphasizes parrying, pushing forward, and raw melee combat.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows greatly blends the classic Assassin’s Creed stealth with the RPG elements of recent entries. Its dynamic world, seasonal changes, and improved stealth mechanics make exploration a joy, but Yasuke’s restrictive gameplay, overall story, and a half-baked notoriety system hold it back.
