Hitman 3 Year 2 content detailed by IO Interactive
/IO Interactive has revealed what’s coming in Year Two of content support for Hitman 3, detailing the Elusive Target Arcade game mode, the Hitman Freelancer game mode, Hitman VR, a new map, plus some visual upgrades for PC players.
Elusive Target Arcade
First up, the release of the Elusive Target Arcade game mode. These are for seasoned agents that know the ins and outs of Hitman as it adds new challenges that lets you earn new rewards if you succeed. Each contract will task a player to take out multiple Elusive targets consecutively. Failure in this Contract will result in a 12-hour lockout before you can give the challenge another go.
This is a permanent game mode that will be added to Hitman 3on January 20, 2022, when Year 2 officially begins. The new game mode will start with 3 Arcade Contracts
Hitman VR launches on PC on January 20
Hitman VR next week to those with the equipment and it essentially let’s you play the whole Hitman trilogy in a new perspective. The best part of this is that Hitman VR will be available for all owners of Hitman 3.
Hitman Trilogy announced
Speaking of the trilogy, IO Interactive also announced a new collection packaging all three games into one purchase. Simply called the Hitman Trilogy, this collection will be out on January 20 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The trilogy will also be available on Xbox Game Pass for console and PC on the 20th.
Hitman Freelancer - new game mode
This addition is rather interesting as this is a “brand new, single-player mode coming Hitman 3 that introduces roguelike elements, strategic planning and a customisable safehouse” says IO Interactive.
Freelancer will make use of the game’s campaign missions but reworked with new NPC types and other changes to give a completely new challenge. The game mode also adds more planning as the resources you use on specific missions will be lost if you don’t bring it back with you when you leave the area.
Consumables like poison syringes are not infinite, so you’ll need to consider stocking up or at least bringing one with you if you happen to find one lying around during a mission or find a vendor selling what you think you need. It’s a cool concept that let’s players think beyond the Contract you are working on.
Freelancer is scheduled to release sometime in Spring 2022.
Hitman 3 is getting a new map - Codename: Rocky
Lastly, IO Interactive teased the upcoming map comin to Hitman 3 codenamed Rocky. Where it’s located and who are Agent 47’s targets is still unknown but the developers say more will be revealed throughout Year 2.
Visual improvements are also coming to Hitman 3 in Year 2 for PC playeres. IO mentioned the ability to utilize Ray Tracing on PC later this year as well as implementing Intel’s XeSS technology, which improves image quality. The game also gets CRS (Variable Rate Shading) which improves shading that in turn improves PC performance.
That’s the gist of what’s coming to Hitman 3 in its second year. With all of this, IO Interactive is still committed to the series and isn’t stopping anytime soon. You can read a more detailed look from IO Interactive’s original post or simply watch the livestream.
