Rainbow Six Extraction guide - Best gadgets to unlock first
/Rainbow Six Extraction has a series of gadgets to unlock to handle specific situations, but you unlock them one by one as you progress through the game. In this guide, we highlight what gadgets players should unlock first once they hit a certain tier.
Rainbow Six Extraction guide - best gear by each tier
Tier 1
Revive Kit: A recon drone or two for a group would do well. If you’re confident, having one player with a drone is enough and when starting out, unlocking the revive kit early will help out players still learning the ropes of Rainbow Six Extraction. If you go down suddenly with no teammate nearby, you can pick yourself up and get back into the fight.
Body Armor: This is pretty straightforward - it provides 20% damage reduction. It may not sound too impressive but when you have nothing else to bring for the and you’re planning to tackle a difficult mission, best to lessen your chances of going down.
Tier 2
Stun grenades - This will be your best friend, especially when fighting against waves of enemies or higher level Archeans like the Smasher or your first encounter with a Tormentor. Don’t forget that you and your teammates will not be affected by your own stun grenades so feel free to toss in right in front of you if needed when in a pinch.
Claymores - Pretty self-explanatory as it’s a solid option to further fortify an area when doing objectives like Serial Scan or Sabotage. Plant a few by the door or a reinforced wall and you give yourself a few seconds to worry about other sections in your defense that need your attention.
Tier 3
XR Recon Drone - A must-have once you’ve unlocked the ability to use tier 3 gadgets. It makes the base recon drone obsolete as this new version automatically scans any threat or consumable within a fixed radius. Throw this gadget into a room and watch it instantly highlight all key information for your team.
Field Wall - At first, I find the Field Wall gadget not all that useful, but towards the end, it’s a great tool to have if you’re forced to defend an open area and are being shot by either a Tormentor, a Spiker, or when dealing with a protean boss. It can be situational but there’s nothing like it to give players mobile cover, so best to have it ready for when you need to bring it.
Scan Grenade - Have this available early on if possible as I find Scan Grenades more useful than the Scan Mine you pick up in the Tier 1 list of gadgets. When you need to reveal a cloaked enemy, you can toss this grenade to reveal it for your team, unlike the Scan Mine, where you have to wait until it enters the gadget’s radius. Situational;, but definitely worth unlocking early.
Tier 4
Paralysis Grenade: A better version of the stun grenade. Every enemy that gets hit from its radius will remain stationary for at least 5 seconds. This will be your best friend at higher levels as any Archean affected by this gadget is susceptible to a melee takedown. This goes for Tormentors and even the hulking Smashers.
Nitro Cell - When you need things to go boom, frag grenades can do the trick but manually triggered explosives are a perfect tool, especially when you need to cover multiple angles. This is pretty much their version of C4 and this should be on your priority list of gadgets to unlock first as it does an insane amount of damage that would be perfect when you’re able to funnel a good amount of enemies or are facing a boss like a Protean.
