Resident Evil 4 Sells Over 3 Million in the First Two Days of Release
/Capcom announced that the remake of Resident Evil 4 sold over 3 million units worldwide in its first two days. This is the total shipments and digital sales across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
A fantastic start and it will only get better here as the initial reviews of the remake are mostly positive, with Resident Evil 4 sitting at an impressive 93 score on Metacritic. Fans of the series are also expressing praise for the remake as the original game is considered one of the best in the series.
For comparison, the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake sold over 11 million since it was released in 2019. With a start like this, Resident Evil 4 looks to be on track to either reach those kinds of numbers.
Here’s what Capcom has to say about the game when reporting on the sales milestone.
“Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the original 2005 title. In addition to reworking the story and modernizing the game feel, the 2023 release will provide both fans of the series and newcomers alike with a fresh gameplay experience, featuring highly immersive visuals powered by the cutting-edge graphics technology of Capcom’s proprietary RE ENGINE. Along with securing high scores on online review sites, the title garnered praise and attention following the release of the Chainsaw Demo, in which players could enjoy the opening of the game, resulting in worldwide sales of the title surpassing 3 million units in the first two days after the game’s release.”
With another remake success story for Capcom, many are wondering if the company will continue creating remakes. The first four titles in the series now have a remake out in the wild and with this kind of success, another remake (maybe Resident Evil 5?) wouldn’t be a bad idea at this point.
I’m currently playing through Resident Evil 4 at the moment and i’m enjoying every minute of it as it was able to retain why the original game was so beloved while giving that experience a modern touch.
But I wouldn’t be surprised if they move the series forward as the new entry in the series that isn’t a remake, Resident Evil: Village, did well when it was released in 2021.
This will be music to the ears of kids who grew up on the series, but for the uninitiated, there’s nothing quite like the Mario & Luigi games. Mario & Luigi Brothership does its best to appeal to a wide range of players with charming presentation and a strong new Battle Plug system, but not everyone will be enamored with its reflex-testing gameplay.
