Ryu Ga Gotoku's Next Game is Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza, Out February 2025
/During a live stream event, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced that their next game in the Like a Dragon series is Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, releasing on February 28, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
This is a spin-off action adventure game, not an RPG like the recent game as it focuses on Goro Majima who finds himself stranded in an island not far from Hawaii. This story follows directly after the conclusion of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which launched at the start of this year.
Here’s a quick synopsis of the game:
“After losing his memory, Goro Majima, a once-feared legend in the yakuza world, sets sail in search of treasure.”
“Half a year after teaming up with Kiryu for a massive battle in the Millenium Tower, Goro Majima washes up with the wreckage of a boat on the shore of a remote, sparsely populated island. With no memories—not even his own name—Majima joins forces with Noah, the young islander who saved his life, and embarks on a search for clues to his forgotten past. However, what waits for them is a powder-keg world where scoundrels vie for a legendary treasure.”
It’s a pirate-themed action adventure game with Majima assembling his pirate crew, upgrade his pirate ship and go head-to-head with other pirates out in the sea. Again, this is set after Infinite Wealth, a game set in modern times and somehow pirates in Hawaii are still using pirate ships with cannons.
I will stop questioning it further. It’s a quirky approach with Gojima at the helm, but quite honestly, nothing shocks me now with this series as they can put beloved Yakuza characters into such an unusual setting and somehow make it work. Hopefully this will be the case for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
