Yes, I Too Accidentally Activated Diablo 4’s Battle Pass Due To Bad UI Design
/Season 1 of Diablo IV is now live and with it comes the game’s first battle pass. We all know how the system works, but what we didn’t know is that Blizzard’s battle pass system doesn’t trigger a second confirmation when you press the button to activate the premium battle pass rewards track. This resulted in many players (including myself) accidentally activating their free battle pass activation that came with either the Deluxe or Ultimate edition of the game.
You can see the terrible design in action below.
“So Blizzard placed the 'Activate Premium Battle Pass' button right next to the button you have to constantly press to check your Season Journey,” Rurikhan said. “Guess what happened to me and at least five others on my stream? This is straight-up malicious design.”. His thread has garnered a lot of attention as other players have replied and reported that they accidentally unlocked it as well.
For me, I didn’t accidentally press it but was just curious how the system worked for those that have either the Deluxe or Ultimate edition as Blizzard stated that players can choose to save their premium battle pass unlock for future seasons.
I was expecting a prompt asking me if I was sure, or if I can pay through the game’s premium currency. But no, just like the content creator Rurikhan, the game crashed on my PS5 and when I logged back in the game activated the premium battle pass. I was level 1 in the battle pass too when it happened and now feel compelled to commit to this season.
I wasn’t happy about the system having no secondary prompt confirming if you do want to activate the premium version of the battle pass, which is generally accessible through real-money transactions. I also tend to buy premium versions of battle pass if I’ve been at least halfway through the season as at the start of the season I wasn’t sure if I have the time to max out the battle pass.
Diablo IV Digital Deluxe and Ultimate edition owners beware
Now, this is an issue for those with a free battle pass. If you own either the digital deluxe or premium editions of the game, and wish to save your free premium battle pass access for future seasons, do not press the big ‘Activate Premium’ button found in the game’s Seasons tab in the menus.
Blizzard’s community manager for anything Diablo Adam Fletcher confirmed that the team is aware and is working on a fix.
It’s uncertain if this will automatically spend premium currency by pressing the big ‘Activate Premium’ button.
Blizzard can’t seem to catch a break as they are still recovering from the controversial 1.1.0 nerf patch that has angered most of its player base. This week, another developer live stream is planned on Friday to detail the changes coming to the 1.1.1 patch based on player feedback as the developers stated last week that the next patch will likely come days after this week’s livestream.
Diablo IV’s first season, called Season of the Malignant, is now live and will run until October 18, 2023.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
