Moar Mega Man madness

Continuing my Mega Man craze, I put back Mega Man Powered Up in my PSP. you might have caught me playing it live on our Justin.tv channel.

The demo of both the new style and old style of cutman's stages where included in Mega Man Maverick Hunter X and when I last played Powered Up, I kinda cheated and just downloaded a save game on Gamefaqs with everything unlocked cause I was too lazy to unlock everything back then.

Now I started on a clean slate and I just beat all the 8 Robot Masters on the Easy and Normal difficulty. Easy so that I can beat them with just the Mega Buster so that they can become playable and Normal so that I can find the creation parts and beating stuff on Normal will unlock something later on.

So yeah, been playing that. Gutsman's stage is still the biggest load of BS in the Mega Man universe. I curse those damn moving platforms! Timeman's stage is also kind of a bitch at a certain point.

Did I mention that the game has a level editor mode? You can create custom stages and share them online. Here's an example of a stage that's impossible to beat. XD

Weekend, what are you playing?

It's the last weekend of June and for most of you, summer has begun. Summer equals free time equals hours and hours spent gaming. What are you playing?

Migoy: Digging through some old PS2 games I got from my friend in hopes of finding something random to play. Aside from that I've started Final Fantasy XII on the PS2. Being a Final Fantasy: Tactics fan, I love the world of Ivalice and giggle everytime I spot a familiar name or term. The MMO style of combat still feels a bit strange but the gambit system is pretty fun to mess with. I've been having a Mega Man craze recently with this huge urge to purchase the D-Arts Rockman X figure. While I'm currently short on funds at the moment, I popped back in Mega Man Marverick Hunter X on the PSP and beat Normal mode for X in like less than 3 hours (I know where everything is). Started with X again but this time on Hard mode and now it feels more like a Mega Man game, with the heightened damage etc.

Arlie: While it's summertime in the US, it's the typhoon season here in the Philippines. It's been raining here for almost the whole week. Flooded streets and heavy traffic everywhere, not to mention that fucking tornado. It's fucked up because we don't usually have tornadoes here. But enough about that, it's game time!

I've been "playing" Gran Turismo 5 mainly for the week. I am trying to complete Endurance Series for B-spec. I just finished Indy500 (200 laps) yesterday and had 2 of my B-spec drivers reach Class 30. Suzuka 1000km (172 laps) is currently on going right now. I placed the quotes because I wasn't really playing. With a really fast car(mine's Formula GT) and tuning setup I could just leave my trained B-spec drivers unattended and win the race easily with the expense of leaving my PS3 running for straight hours while I do other stuff like play other games or watch educational art films. Since saving in the middle of a race is not yet possible I can't be sure if I'm ready for the 24-hour events because of the random power outages caused by this weather we're having here in the third world.

I finally had the chance to play Alice: Madness Returns the other day. I am really attracted to this game, imagine the movie Sucker Punch turned into a video game, only that instead of Baby Doll you have a knife wielding, pepper grinder spewing, emo-looking chick collecting lost memories of her past. What I like in this game is it's gameplay and design, love the physics of how Alice's emo hair move with the wind in Wonderland(her hair suck balls in the real world).

I also played F.3.A.R yesterday, I wasn't able to finish F.E.A.R. 2 so I really didn't know what happened. And just like in previous F.E.A.R. games, I shoot everything that moves and hope that the little bitch doesn't appear. Finding those freaky Alma dolls hidden in every stage is not fun.

Quash: Yesterday i was at the Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition and  Mortal Kombat Tournament called Last Chance. It lasted pretty much the whole day and left me exhausted. For my second fighting game tournament, I actually did fairly well. I won my first 2 matches bringing me to the winners bracket to met the best Guile player I've ever seen. A player that uses Guile aggressively which is not Guile's playstyle at all, but he make it work leaving players stunned and shaking their heads.

When i lost to him i was brought down to the losers bracket and i needed to beat my own friend to reach top 8. That really sucked since we both wanted to meet somewhere in the finals. I lost again with him playing his over-powered Yun knocking me out of the tournament. Regardless, I'm pleased on how I did. I was worried about getting knocked out at the start but thankfully i was able to pull it off. In the end, we were treated with an intense Grand Finals with an Akuma player named Den against Ben, the aggressive Guile player that took me out of Winners. Den beat Ben taking him out of Winners, so Ben was actually coming from losers during the Grand Finals and had to win 2 sets of best to 3 matches while Akuma only needed to win 1. It was crazy, and Ben eventually got used to the fight and won the match. Congrats to him!

Mortal Kombat? well i joined that for kicks and i actually won my first match for some reason. I was using Kitana and with no practice whatsoever and with only one combo in my belt(which is why i picked Kitana in the first place), i quickly lost my next two matches against crazy MK players. It was fun though and i'm still laughing that i grabbed a win at the start.

Since all of that is over, I think ill go and play some Team Fortress 2 and forget about Street Fighter for a bit....until the next tournament. Thanks again for Pinoy2Dfighters for another successful tourney.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Changes in the script

Ok, so I just replayed Castlevania Symphony of the Night just a few months ago and after hearing song covers from the soundtrack, the urge to play it has once again built up.

I replayed the original Playstation version and remembered that Alucard's voice in the PSP port and other games past that were different. It made me search on youtube for the cutscenes and see if there were any difference. Lo and behold, complete voice cast make over.

I know it's just my nostalgia talking but I prefer the original dialogue. Sure it's filled with hammy overacting but that's what made it stick to your head. I could recite the whole intro conversation between Richter and Dracula if you asked me to. I had my cousin play the original SotN after I finished it earlier this year and even he has memorized the lines since he's beat it multiple times too.

What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets! But enough talk. Have at you!

Weekend, what are you playing?

It's halfway through June already? That's fast. Summer is officially over for us here in the Philippines but there's still a weekend for hours of gaming on end! What are you playing?

Migoy: Technically I'm not home for the weekend so I'll just mention games I've played these past few days. Been spending a lot of time playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (quite a mouth full ei?). The opening of the game is awesome as shit but then the game changes pace drastically. It's definitely not the game I expected it to be but I am enjoying it quite a bit. You can find some clips of my antics at the TooMuchGaming Youtube channel.

Since I'm going to be out for the weekend, I'll be bringing Phats (my PSP1000) for portable gaming fun incase I need a distraction. Gonna be bringing Dissidia 012 Duodecim as I am still playing that game. I'm also bringing Blazblue: Continium Shift 2, the combo system in the game feels very different compared to the firsy Blazblue so this'll be interesting.

Arlie: I've been playing Duke Nukem Forever since it was released for the PC. I really can't wait to finish it, and honestly I don't think that I will be able to (Yep, it's THAT bad). It is entertaining to some point just because of Duke's humor, but that's just it. In terms of gameplay, story don't expect much also, playing it just to see tits are not even worth it. It may be enjoyable to some people, but it just didn't meet on what I was expecting it to be. When Hong Kong PSN got back online earlier this week, I went back on playing L.A. Noire to redeem my free "The Naked City" Ad Vice Case and Badge Pursuit Challenge DLC off the Asian PlayStation Store. I'm going to get a Rockstar Pass with a friend so I could also get the other DLC cases. I also played Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds a while ago and I already finished Arcade for all the characters and a 100% Gallery for two gold trophies and a couple of online ranked matches (which I lost to almost all of them). What I've been looking forward to play this weekend is Outland and Alice: Madness Returns.

Quash: Arcade weekend!! it's all about arcade games for me this weekend. Took a break from the common genre's like shooters or RPGs so I went with games like Dead Nation, Super Stardust HD and Outland.

Super Stardust HD can be pretty addicting. Aiming for the highest possible score in the game is just enough to keep you playing again and again. I wish it had a couple more planets but replaying the planets over and over to reach a good score can still makes hours go by. Dead Nation? I mentioned this before that I've already finished the game. All I'm doing now is I'm finishing it in another difficulty for some trophies. I always tell people I'm not much of an achievement junkie, but I still bother with some achievements for some reason. Damn those virtual achievements!

Last but not least we have Outland. Tried the demo and I just had to get this game. I bought this yesterday together with my Rockstar Pass(for L.A Noire DLCs) and it's worth the 10 bucks. It has such a great game design and art style. A solid 2D platform game that gives you the old Castlevania feel. I haven't played a platform game in a long time so getting Outland was perfect. I'm like 3 hours in and the game is getting insane.

Sony will 'consider' support for UMD games on the PS Vita

With the PSP's massive library of games and with it's successor, the PS Vita, coming out in the holiday of 2011. People are wondering if the Vita will be able to play older PSP games.

From Destructoid:

I've talked before about how I hope all my lovely UMD-based PSP games will somehow work on the PlayStation Vita. Sony has not said much about how they would offer up support since the product announcement, but a new blurb in a PlayStation Vita FAQ gives me hope.

Q: I have UMD games but do I need to buy them again from PlayStation Store to play the same game on PS Vita?

A: We will consider every possibility for support on bought UMD games but we have nothing to comment at this point in time.

That's far from confirmation, but it does at least sound positive. The FAQ also states that they have no plans to bring any kind of UMD reader out for the device. Sony says that they'll continue the push to get UMD games released on their new game medium. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed.

Peronsally, I think Sony is evil enough to not support UMD games on the Vita and just ask us to re-buy the games in digital form just because they can. But I do hope that they atleast provide some form of software to be able to transfer your PSP UMD games over to the Vita. If the PSPGo had such software, it woulda sold like hotcakes in my opinion.
