Lords of the Fallen 2.0 Update: Friend Pass and Co-op Explained
/Developer Hexworks has released the 2.0 update for their action RPG Lords of the Fallen—a massive patch that adds highly requested quality-of-life improvements and introduces a brand-new co-op system. The biggest surprise? The inclusion of the Friend Pass, which lets players who don’t own the game join a friend for a full co-op playthrough, completely for free.
How does the Lords of the Fallen Friend Pass work?
Hexworks detailed how the new Friend Pass system works. It allows players who don’t own Lords of the Fallen to join a friend who does for the entire campaign via co-op. Friend Pass users can also access the game’s character creator and tutorial.
Your character’s progress (including level, stats, and loot) is saved between sessions. However, world progression—like quest completions and unlocked areas—is saved only for the host. While it’s ideal for the Friend Pass player to stick with the same host, you're not locked to one. You can join any friend who owns the full game.
Keep in mind: the host can only have one free guest at a time, but they're not restricted to the same guest in future sessions.
Friend Pass is available via cross-play across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store) through password matchmaking.
How to Download Lords of the Fallen Friend Pass
If someone wants to join a friend who owns the game, here's how to get the Friend Pass depending on your platform:
PlayStation 5: Go to the PlayStation Store, search for Lords of the Fallen, and download the trial version.
Xbox Series X|S: Same process—go to the Xbox Store, search for the game, and download the trial version.
Steam: Search for Lords of the Fallen. On the store page, find “Play Lords of the Fallen – Friend’s Pass” and click “Install.”
Epic Games Store: Look for the dedicated Free Friend’s Pass demo page and download it from there.
Windows Store: Simply search and download the trial version of the game. How do you invite a friend using the Free Friend’s Pass?
How to Invite a Friend Using the Friend’s Pass
Inviting a friend using Friend Pass depends on whether you’re on the same platform or playing cross-platform.
Same Platform
Use the "Beckon Friend" option in the Vestige menu to invite someone from your platform-specific friend list (e.g., PSN, Xbox Live, Steam). This works for Standard Co-op only and does not support crossplay.
Cross-Platform
Set a matching password in the Vestige menu for Standard Co-op or Shared Progression Co-op. Your friend must enter the same password to join your session. This enables crossplay between PS5, Xbox, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store.
How to Join a Friend Using Friend Pass
If you’re the one joining, here’s how to do it—again, depending on platform:
Same Platform
In the Vestige menu, select “Join Session” or “Join Session (Shared Progression)” and pick a friend from your friend list. For Shared Progression Co-op, you can also use matchmaking or enter a password.
Cross-Platform
Enter the same matching password in the Vestige menu (Standard or Shared Progression Co-op), and you’ll be able to join your friend’s game regardless of platform.
What Are the Two Types of Co-op?
Friend Pass can only be used for co-op gameplay, and Hexworks has introduced two co-op modes:
Standard Co-op
Share world and boss loot
Ability to revive the host
Quest progression is not saved for non-host players
Great for casual play or helping a friend without affecting your own questline.
Shared Progression Co-op
Saves character and quest progression for all players
Syncs quest items, steps, and progress
Ideal for full playthroughs together
More Than Just Co-op: Other Lords of the Fallen 2.0 Improvements
The 2.0 update isn’t just about Friend Pass or co-op. It brings a wide range of quality-of-life upgrades, including:
Improved traversal and tighter combat animations
A dedicated jump button
Overhauled tutorial system
Better lamp guidance
More performance optimizations

Lords of the Fallen launched in 2023 to mixed reviews, but continued player feedback has driven Hexworks to refine the experience over time. With this latest update, the game’s community continues to grow.
Even better? A full sequel is now in development. CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski confirmed that over 200 developers are working on the next Lords of the Fallen, currently in full production and expected to release in 2026.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows greatly blends the classic Assassin’s Creed stealth with the RPG elements of recent entries. Its dynamic world, seasonal changes, and improved stealth mechanics make exploration a joy, but Yasuke’s restrictive gameplay, overall story, and a half-baked notoriety system hold it back.
