Call of Duty: WWII - Review Round-Up
/Call of Duty: WWII is out today worldwide. Players are flocking the servers for multiplayer, exploring a modern take in WWII with the campaign, and seeing how long they can last against Nazi Zombies. How does Sledgehammer Games' latest title fair with the critics? So far so good as some were convinced to release a final verdict while some are taking its time, experiencing the multiplayer aspect of the game and its progression.
Here's the round-up:
VentureBeat: "a welcome reminder of heroes and sacrifice" - 94/100
Gameinformer: "Rallying The Shooter On Multiple Fronts" - 8.75
GamesRadar: "Getting rid of the gimmicks creates a much purer point and shoot experience" - 4/5
Gamespot: "Call of Duty's long-awaited return to its World War II roots is not only a homecoming, but also a commemoration of the powerful bonds that form between brothers in arms/" - Review in progress
Polygon: "Call of Duty returns to its roots with mixed results." - Review in progress
Telegraph: "An explosive, surprising return to its roots" - 4/5
Windows Central: "Classic COD action with more emotion than ever" - 4.5/5
Critical Hit: "Riveting, entertaining and at times hard-hitting" - 8.5/10
PC Gamer: "A drab campaign doesn't do the history justice, but the multiplayer recalls the glory days of Modern Warfare." - Review in progress
XboxAddict: "It’s time to get the squad back together and get back into some intense World War II action as Call of Duty is indeed back and this year’s entry is pretty much a ‘must play’ for fans of the series, and fans of video games alike. " - 9.2/10
Ungeek: "The Call of Duty franchise desperately needed this refresh and Sledgehammer totally killed it with WWII." - 8.5/10
I had a great time with the multiplayer aspect of the game during the Private Beta and during ESGS 2017. It throwing away all the gimmicks and going for a more grounded approach looks like it is working in its favor and the talks about the campaign give me hope that Call of Duty could get a second wind despite them facing franchise fatigue thanks to the yearly releases.
Call of Duty: WWII is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
