Ni No Kuni 2 : Revenant Kingdom Review Round Up
/Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingom has been out since last week and the reviews picture it as a sequel that has managed to improved the core systems that make the first game great.
Developed by the folks at Level-5, Ni No Kuni 2 follows a young ruler that goes on a journey to build a new kingdom free of strife, uniting the whole world of Ni No Kuni with the help of friends he meets along the way. It has the typical JRPG formula of you visiting towns and exploring dungeons, with the addition of you building and managing the kingdom.
Check out what some of the critics have to say below. Our very own Matthew Arcilla has been exploring the world of Ni No Kuni since last week, so expect a few review from him very soon.
IGN - "Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom distinguishes itself from its predecessor by layering fast-paced, real-time combat and an engaging kingdom building system atop more traditional RPG systems and quests. It’s a shame it delivers so few truly memorable characters and restricts so much of its storytelling to text on screen..." - 7.8/10
Polygon - "Ni no Kuni 2 aims for a lot of different targets: world-spanning story, management sim, recruitment game and solid combat experience. Against all odds, it manages to hit them all in a way that very few games in its genre can manage. " - 9/10
Playstation Lifestyle - "Ni no Kuni II is pure magic. It consistently surpassed my expectations, being bigger than I could have imagined. New pieces were constantly fitting themselves into place, and just when I thought the puzzle was complete, the border would expand." - 9.5/10
Eurogamer - "With time, Ni no Kuni 2's lavish array of systems grind away any ennui you might feel about the story. There are the usual JRPG sins of a world bloated with loot and resources and missions that are essentially there to sponge up the hours, but most of it feeds satisfyingly into kingdom-building and the party combat." - No Score
Kotaku - " Ni no Kuni II is a very good role-playing game, one full of satisfying mechanics and fun battles. It’s also got quotes like that. Even for a fairy tale, this game is naive to the point of parody..." - No Score
Ungeek - "Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom really separates itself from its older brother by practically improving every aspect of the the original. Its fast-paced, real-time combat and excellent kingdom building mechanic – not to mention giving some obvious nods to our beloved traditional RPG systems of ye-olden time make it really easy to fall in love with this game." - 4/5
The Verge - " Even in the RPGs I admire the most, there are usually down moments, times when things can get tedious, or where the story meanders and gets confusing. I never really felt that while playing Ni No Kuni II." - No Score
GameSpot - "Ni No Kuni 2 is a robust game that offers ample ways to spend your time, and even if they aren't all up to the same level of quality, it's easy to appreciate how they collectively contribute to the bigger picture. " - 8/10
