Destiny 2: Lightfall Guide - How To Get Terminal Overload Keys and Where To Use Them
/The Destiny 2: Lightfall expansion comes with a new public event called Terminal Overload, and completing it spawns two chests with one requiring a Terminal Overload Key to open it. Luckily, it isn’t that difficult to get a key, so here’s a quick guide on how to obtain these keys, where these public events are, and what you can expect from those chests.
For those new to Neomuna, you might come across these public events as you go through the expansion’s campaign missions. These can be tough as it recommends a power level of at least 1750. Anything below will make most enemies take you down with just a few hits. Stay clear for now.
How to Get Terminal Overload Keys
I suggest you save Terminal Overload public events after you’ve completed the campaign and completed the ‘Welcome to the Hall of Heroes’ questline (also available after you complete the campaign) as these are the initial requirements to have Terminal Overload Keys drop for your Guardian.
Once you’ve finished the Lightfall campaign and the ‘Welcome to the Hall of Heroes’ questline, you’ll be given the Stargazer quest from Quinn Laghari in the Hall of Heroes. This quest introduces you to Terminal Overload Keys. Once that quest is done, you can now earn Terminal Overload Keys.
There are currently four known methods to obtain a Terminal Overload key.
Neomuna Patrols
Neomuna Public Events
Neomuna chests
Nimbus daily Bounty
Both Neomuna Patrols and Neomuna Public Events have a high chance of earning you a Terminal Overload key. I can’t say for sure if Neomuna chests have a lower chance but it does feel that way when I hunt for them, so your best bet is the first two.
You can also earn a guaranteed Terminal Overload key daily through Nimbus. When you’ve reached reputation rank 8 with Nimbus, you can unlock the Terminal Overload Bounty upgrade, which simply allows you to pick up a daily bounty from Nimubs that rewards you a key after completion.
Where to use the Terminal Overload Keys
Once you’ve got yourself a Terminal Overload Key, it’s time to use it. The fastest way to get to a Terminal Overload public event is to go to your Neomuna map and click the ‘Terminal Overload’ event to launch you to a public event that has either not started, or is currently ongoing with other players.
Once you’re in one, just follow the objectives as you’ll mostly find yourself dealing with waves of either Vex or Calus’ Cabal army. There are three phases to this public event, and at the end of it, you’ll find two chests, with one of them requiring a Terminal Overload key to unlock.
Even when you are above the first Power Level cap of 1750, it can be tough completing it solo, so if ever you load into a public event with no other players around, you can just go back to the map and launch into another public event in the hopes of finding a more populated instance.
Terminal Overload Rotation
This public event rotates between each of Neomuna’s main districts; Ahimsa Park, Liming Harbor, and Zephyr Concourse. Where the public event will be will determine the Neomuna weapon you’ll earn from the Terminal Overload chest.
Ahimsa Park (Terminal Overload AP) - Basso Ostinato (Void Shotgun)
Liming Harbor (Terminal Overload: LH) - Synchronic Roulette (Strand SMG)
Zephyr Concourse (Terminal Overload: ZC) - Circular Logic (Strand Heavy Machine Gun)
These Strand weapons are one of the reasons why players would run these events as they have unique perks like Hatchling, a new perk that will go well with Strand builds as precision kills with the weapon will spawn a Threadling that searches for a nearby enemy and explode.
These three Neomuna weapons are worth picking up for their unique perk pools and each of them feels great for their respective weapon types. Sadly, there is currently no craftable version of these weapons, so don’t expect red border drops from these Terminal Overload keys. When you get the considered “god roll’ for a particular weapon, think about it for a minute if it’s worth keeping.
The other reason is to farm Strand Meditation to quickly unlock all of your Strand subclasses Fragments as it’s a good source of the resources as a few hours in this event will earn you enough after a few rounds.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
