Destiny 2’s 2023 Guardian Games Goes Live on May 2, Here’s All You Need To Know
/Despite how grim the state of the world is after the events of the Lightfall expansion, Destiny 2’s annual Guardian Games event is still pushing through as it will go live on May 2. Here’s everything you need to know.
2023 Guardian Games start and end times
The Guardian Games will last for three weeks starting from May 2 until May 23, which means this event will last through the rest of Season of Defiance as Season 20 ends on the 23rd.
How will a class win this year?
This year will be a big deal as each class is competing for their second win ever since the event started, and this year the class with the most medallions earned at the end of the event will be at the top of the podium.
Here’s how players earn Medallions for the event according to Bungie.
Activities that award you low-tier (Bronze or Silver) Medallions include Gambit and Quickplay Crucible matches, anything from the Vanguard playlists, as well as most Neptune activities and Defiant Battlegrounds. For high-tier (Gold and Platinum) Medallions, play Nightfalls, raids, dungeons, Competitive Crucible, Trials of Osiris, or Legend Defiant Battlegrounds.
Contender Cards which are purchased for 1000 Glimmer also award Gold Medallions. You can only carry two Contender Cards at a time: one for strikes and Gambit and another one focused on the Crucible. Platinum Cards award Platinum Medallions, and those cost 1500 Glimmer each. Just like Contender Cards, you can carry two of these at a time: one for strikes and Gambit and one for Crucible.
Simply put, play any of Destiny 2’s activities and donate Medallions to your preferred class.
Strike Scoring is making a return this year and will feature new Strike Medals. For those unfamiliar, Strike Scoring is active in the Guardian Games playlists (Ops and Competitive) when the event goes live. Players can earn weapon buffs and abilities that can improve their score on their next run, giving them chances to earn more Strike Medals and more.
Rewards for this year’s Guardian Games
The Title Void SMG will be available yet again but will have an updated perk pool. We’ll update you soon if it’s worth the hunt. The new weapon that’s being introduced this year is the Lightweight Frame Legendary Strand Scount Rifle Traxippos. Bungie teases that it will have “amazing” perk combinations, we’ll update this once we see how great it is.
This year also includes Guardian Games-themed armor for either class, which you can see above.
Supremacy returns to The Crucible with class matchmaking
For PvP, the Supremacy game mode returns during the duration of the Guardian Games and will also feature matchmaking by class, so don’t be surprised if a team of Titans faces off against a team of Warlocks in a match.
In this game mode, killing an opposing player will grant your team one point, and picking up the crest the slain player dropped will also earn one point for your team. So it’s all about earning up to 150 points or having the most once the time is up.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
