Diablo 4 Guide - How To Unlock Your Mount
/This is the first time the Diablo series has gone to a more open-world approach as Diablo 4 features mounts to make the travel from one point to another faster and more efficient. But don’t expect to have a trusty steed at the start of the game as you need to play a good portion of the game’s campaign first. In this guide, we break down when you exactly unlock the ability to call your horse and what you need to do.
When can you unlock mounts in Diablo 4?
Without spoiling anything, you’ll need to play much of Diablo 4 before you can even unlock mounts. To be specific, you need to finish the first three acts of the game. So, don’t go running around the city of Kyovashad thinking you missed something.
It’s only natural to wonder if you missed unlocking mounts as you’ll be visiting multiple towns with Mount vendors stationed in each one, telling you to finish a quest called ‘Mount: Donan’s Favor’.
Mount Quest - Donan’s Favor
The quest to unlock mounts will be available at the beginning of Act 4. Once you’ve completed Act 3, your first quest in Act 4 will task you to return to Kyovashad (one of the beginning towns in the Fractured Peaks) to talk to Donan. Once the conversation ends, he will then start talking about getting your own mount. This starts the ‘Donan’s Favor’ mount quest, so it’s not possible to miss it.
We unlocked the mount when we were over level 40, but we’ve heard people reaching this point in the game when they were around level 30, so just play the game naturally as it’s likely your first time.
The mount quest is fairly simple as all you need to do is talk to the Stable Master in Kytovashad and that’s it!
What’s great about completing this mount quest is that it’s a universal unlock, meaning all future characters in your account will have access to mounts right away, making different characters much easier later on.
How to summon your mount
To summon your mount, you can do so by either pressing the right button in your controller’s d-pad or the ‘z’ on your keyboard. You can summon your mount in town or out in the world but not in dungeons or instances in the campaign.
Mounts have three charges that if used trigger a burst of speed for a few seconds. These charges recharge rather quickly and are a good source of speed to get around the world more quickly.
Don’t think you’re immune to enemies as with enough damage you can get knocked out of your horse. If enemies are nearby you have a dismount attack that quickly dismounts you and does a unique AOE type of attack. You can also just normally dismount, but where’s the fun in that?
In Diablo 4, there are a variety of different horses to buy and you can customize their looks from the saddle they have on to the trophy they attach to their side. It’s all mostly cosmetic as there’s no progression to improve the speed or effectiveness of your mount.
Naturally, the mount is much faster than just running so it’s definitely a useful tool, especially when leveling other characters after your first one.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is now my favorite title from the Persona team by far. It’s one of those rare games where its main pillars work harmoniously, and you get lost in its charm. It’s a pristine JRPG, with enough style and substance to satisfy hardcore JRPG fans, Persona fans, and even those who rarely touch JRPGs.
