Doom: The Dark Ages Announced, Also Coming Out on the PS5
/During the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda and id Software revealed Doom: The Dark Ages, the third Doom title that started with the 2016 Doom reboot. The third entry is considered a prequel that focuses on the origins of Doom Slayer.
Here’s a quick overview of Doom: Dark Ages from Bethesda.
In this third installment of the modern DOOM series, players will step into the blood-stained boots of the DOOM Slayer, in this never-before-seen dark and sinister medieval war against Hell.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is a single-player experience that delivers the searing combat and over-the-top visuals of the incomparable DOOM franchise, powered by the latest idTech engine.
As the ultimate super weapon of Gods and Kings, shred enemies with devastating favorites like the Super Shotgun while also wielding a variety of new bone-chewing weaponry, including the versatile Shield Saw.
Players will tear across the demon-infested battlefields in the vicious, grounded combat the original DOOM is famous for. Take flight atop the new fierce Mecha Dragon and stand tall in a massive Atlan mech as you beat titanic demons to a pulp.
New Doom is not an exclusive
The surprise here is that despite Bethesda now under the Xbox banner due to Microsoft officially acquiring the company and all its properties back in 2021, Doom: The Dark Ages is not an Xbox exclusive as it will also be available on the PlayStation 5.
This seems to be Xbox’s new strategy after acquiring not only Bethesda but also Activision as key franchises are not being kept exclusive to one platform but left untouched to reach as many players as possible. This strategy was first revealed when Xbox shared that four exclusive titles would be given multi-platform launches. These titles were Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush.
This will be a title-to-title basis as Starfield, one of Bethesda’s high-profile titles, was an Xbox console exclusive but was available on Steam.
As for Doom: The Dark Ages, it’s slated for a 2025 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
