Major Announcements from the Dead by Daylight 8th Anniversary Stream
/Developer Behaviour Interactive recently hosted their 8th anniversary stream for Dead by Daylight, celebrating another year for the 4v1 isometric horror game. The event was packed with exciting announcements, including new content, quality of life improvements, and future features planned for the upcoming year.
Here’s a detailed rundown of all the major reveals from the stream.
New Game set in the Dead by Daylight universe - What the Fog game announced
A free action game called What the Fog was announced. It’s a 2-person roguelite title set in the Dead by Daylight universe. The catch here is that to play the game you’ll have to create a Behaviour account to play What the Fog.
Update: It’s a free game for the first 2,000 players who create a Behaviour Interactive account and link their account to their preferred Steam account. Once linked, you’ll be given a Steam code for What the Fog for free.
What the Fog is now available on Steam for P174.99/ $4.99.
Year 9 will contain six Chapters
Year 9 is just as packed as Year 8 as players can expect six Chapters, starting with a major update from the Dungeons and Dragons Chapter featuring a new Killer, Survivor and Map. This year does contain minor Chapters such as a chapter that only features a new Survivor or a Chapter with just a new Killer.
This year also features four in-game events, a game mode set for July, and a new Modifier game modern in September.
2v8 Game Mode is coming this Summer
Speaking of a new game mode coming to the game called Dead by Daylight, players will get to play a new mode that features eight Survivors going against two Killers. This is Behaviour playing around with what they call Modifiers.
There will be five maps to cater to this new game mode. They also revealed that Survivors will have classes, giving players a chance to stick to a specific role in the team. Killers will also get team buffs that give them benefits if they are near each other.
For Killers, hooking is still the name of the game but hooks are now replaced with cages and act similar to the killer Pyramid Head’s cage mechanic.
This game mode will only be limited to the game’s base five killers, making the mode more accessible to all players that own Dead by Daylight but they are planning to add more Killers to this game mode in the future.
More information about this game mode will be revealed soon but they can’t say if this new game mode will be a permanent addition to the base game.
Finisher Mori will become a baseline feature in a future update
One of the major features coming to the game in the future is that Finisher Moris will now be a baseline feature for all Killers. Killers will soon be able to Mori the last remaining Survivor in a match.
Cross-progression Is Coming this Summer
Cross-progression is one of the most wanted features from the Dead by Daylight community. This simply allows players to bring all their content and progression to another platform. For example, if you mainly play the game on PC, you can bring all of your progress and character unlocks for when you play the game on the console.
The only catch here is you’ll need to create a Behaviour Interactive account for cross-progression.
Dungeons and Dragons Chapter Revealed
The next licensed Chapter for Dead by Daylight is Dungeons and Dragons, a rather unexpected collaboration. The new Killer is Vecna, the new Survivor is a Bard named Aestri Yazar, and this Chapter will also bring a new map that’s Dungeons and Dragons themed with a unique interaction
The Killer Vecna’s unique mechanic will be having four different spells that the player can choose depending on the situation they need during a match, so it seems like managing the spell’s cooldowns will be key to finding success in a match.
Here’s a rundown of Vecna’s unique powers and the perks coming in this Chapter.
Vecna Powers
Mage Hand - Conjure a magical hand to lift a downed Pallet or briefly block an upright Pallet.
Flight of the Damned - Send a row of 5 flying spectral entities that can pass through obstacles and injure Survivors.
Dispelling Sphere - Cast an invisible moving sphere that reveals Survivors and temporarily disables their Magic Items.
Fly - Briefly fly forward to quickly traverse a long distance, bypassing Pallets and Vaults.
Vecna Perks
Weave Attunement - When a Survivor’s Item becomes depleted for the first time, it drops to the ground. Any Survivor within range of these items will have their Auras revealed to the Killer. When a Survivor picks up an item, they become Oblivious for a brief duration.
Languid Touch - When a Survivor scares a Crow Inside your Terror Radius, they become Exhausted for a brief duration.
Dark Arrogance - You are blinded and stunned for longer, but you gain faster vault speed.
Survivor Perks
Mirrored Illusion - When you finish repairing a Generator, press the Ability button while near a Chest, Generator, Totem, or Exit Gate. A Static illusion of yourself will appear for a brief duration.
Bardic Inspiration - Press the Ability button while near other Survivors to begin a brief performance, during which you’ll roll a D20 dice. On a 1, you scream. For 2-10, Skill Checks grant 1% repair progress. From 11-19, Skill Checks grant +2% repair progress. On a 20, Skill Check give +3% repair progress. THe effect ends if a Skill Check is missed, th ability is canceled, or the performance is completed.
Stil Sight - After standing still for a brief duration, you will see the Auras of all Generators, Totems, and Chests in your vicinity.
Survivors going against Vecna can open unique chests that give Survivors gear that can counter specific Vecna spells. In Dungeon and Dragons fashion, opening these Vecna chests will have dice rolls that will determine the quality of what contains the chest. Lower rolls will give you basic items while higher rolls give you higher-quality items.
Right after the anniversary stream, the Public Test Build for the Dungeons and Dragons Chapter went live for players to test out the new content, more specifically to test drive the new Killer Vecna and all the perks coming to the game.
This Chapter will go live on June 3, 2024.
New Games expanding the Dead by Daylight World
The anniversary stream highlighted that multiple projects in development are set within the Dead by Deadlight world. Project T is one of these new games and it looks like a third-person co-op shooter. The gameplay footage of the game seems really early in development as it feels like it has a couple of years before it will be released.
They also revealed an Insider program for players interested in helping with the development of Project T.
The other game is The Casting of Frank Stone being developed by Supermassive Games, a studio best known for their story-driven, player-choice games like The Quarry or Until Dawn.
Castlevania is coming to Dead by Daylight
They end the show by announcing that they are bringing the Castlevania franchise to Dead by Daylight. More information will be shared on August 8.
That’s pretty much all the major announcements from the 8th anniversary stream.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
