Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be releasing their new fighter, Tekken’s Kazuka Mishima on June 29, 2021 and will be the second to the last DLC character to be added to the game, says series director Masahiro Sakurai during a lengthy video presentation showcasing Kazuya in action and other updates for the game.

Towards the end of the video, Sakurai mentions that it has been “close to 10 years since Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems was in development,” Sakurai says.

“I’ve been working on this for a long time. You could call it my life’s work. But finally, the next downloadable content fighter will be the last one. There won’t be any more after that. It’ll be a while before that announcement, but it’ll be available this year as planned.”

Kazuya will be available on June 29 while the last character to complete the roster of Fighter Pass 2 will be announced and released later in the year.

After Fighter Pass 2, what’s next for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or even the series? Will we see them shift into working on a new game, or will they work on an entirely new project? We’ll see as they still have one more DLC character to ship and it looks like they are still on pace to have it out later in the year.

Nintendo also announced a new batch of Mii FIghter costumes that will launch together with Kazuya this week. You can play as a Mii Fighter dressed as Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, Dragonborn from Skyrim, Shantae, and Dante from Devil May Cry.
