Valheim Seems To Be 'On Track' To Be The Next Big Survival Game
/ Carlos HernandezValheim is a co-op survival crafting game developed by Iron gate AB and was released in Steam’s Early Access program just last week, but has already found itself in Steam’s bestsellers list as well as almost reaching the top 10 games with the most player count in the platform.
Valheim feels like it’s a mix of Terraria and Rust as players play as a dead viking that must battle their way in the afterlife to prove their worth to Odin himself by disposing the god’s rivals.
Just like any survivor game before it, you are left with nothing and must work their way up by gathering the materials in the area to craft the necessary items they need to survive and battle the creatures that populate the area. If you are prepared enough for a fight, you can summon mythical boss-like creatures to test your mettle. You can craft, build, and up to 10 players can play in one world.
It’s a hit in Steam’s user reviews section as well as Valheim currently has over 8,000 reviews and are “overwhelmingly” positive. The survival game is also slowly climbing Twitch’s top games with the most viewers as a handful of well-known streamers have picked up the survival game, making the game reach over 80,000 viewers at one point since it was released in Early Access.
Have a look at Valheim’s Steam page and see for yourself. It’s currently only PHP 449.95 ($10) to play the game in Early Access. No release date for the game’s official launch was given but a roadmap of upcoming updates for the game can be seen it it’s Steam store page.
Will it lose steam in the coming weeks or gain even more momentum? Only time will tell but it looks like the current build of the game, the exposure it currently has, and the initial reaction from player give it a good shot at being the next breakout game coming from Steam’s Early Access program. Similar to how Rust first began, or even DayZ.

While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
