The release of Vampire: The Masquarade - Bloodlines 2 will likely be a longer wait as the boss of publisher Paradox Interactive doesn’t expect the game to release in the first half of 2021.

Paradox CEO Ebba Ljungerud was interviewed by Swedish financial publication Placera (reported by Eurogamer) and said “I do not think it will come in the first half of the year, but we will see”.

The reason for it is a mix of the current pandemic, recent staff leaving the studio, and adapting the game for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X.

In the interview, Ljungerud said that “The schedule for Bloodlines 2 has been affected by both staff dropouts and the pandemic. The delays led to Paradox making the decision to adapt the game also for the new console generations PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X which have been released recently. This adaptation work has in itself contributed to the delay in the launch.

“To be able to develop for the next generation, you have to have development kits from the manufacturers. And I’m pretty sure that both Sony and Microsoft were affected by the pandemic because they did not have that many development kits.”

Bloodlines 2 was first confirmed back at GDC 2019 and was aiming for a Q1 2020 release, but then the first delay happened pushing the release to late 2020, then to their latest delay announcement, which was back in August, revealing that the RPG is now a 2021 title.

The developer working on the sequel to the 2004 RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is Hardsuit Labs, which is more known for their work with the free-to-play FPS Blacklight: Retribution.
