Nintendo 2DS

nintendo_2ds

Nintendo is releasing a new version of the 3DS called the Nintendo 2DS. No, that is not a typo. The Nintendo 2DS can play 3DS games in 2D. It still supports backwards compatibility with DS games. It will also retain all the other features that the 3DS has. Essentially a 3DS minus the 3D slider.

I think this is a great idea. A cheaper way to be able to play 3DS games and a lot of people don't really seem to like the 3D gimmick. While this new redesign looks more confortable to hold, I am not diggin' the body. I've always liked the foldable design of the DS. Now the screen just look so exposed. That soft pouch shown in the video below will not protect the 2DS all that well. But seeing as they've included the pouch in the video, I am assuming that one is included in every box. With the lack of a foldable design, I hope there is a way to still be able to put the unit into sleep mode. Another disadantage of this new design is that (at least for now) you won't be able to clip on a Circle Pad Pro which might not be a big factor but it bums me out a bit. Perhaps this was the inspiration for the new design.

In North America, the Nintendo 2DS will be available in two color schemes, red/black and blue/black. In Europe, the 2DS will be available in red/white and blue/black options. The Nintendo 2DS is stated to come out in October 12th of this year and will be priced at $129.99.

What's your take on the Nintendo 2DS? Do you think Nintendo has made the right choice with this redesign? Sound off in the comments below.

Grand Theft Auto V has gone gold! and apparently a leak happened recently

Grand Theft Auto V Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V has gone gold! Which means the game is 100% complete and mass production of the game is what's left to prepare for the release on September 17. Rockstar released a statement, and in that statement they also addressed a suppose leak that happened recently thanks to Sony.

This flew under our radar. Apparently people who downloaded the digital-download of GTA V in PSN Europe had access to certain assets of the game by mistake. Sony released a statement apologizing for the leak, but Rockstar still expressed disappointment over how they handled their content:

We’re pleased to confirm that Grand Theft Auto V has officially gone gold and we’re now preparing the game for release on September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unfortunately, as many of you may already know, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTAV assets leading to leaked information and media from the game appearing online. You can read Sony’s statement on this here:http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/08/24/grand-theft-auto-v-update/. As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17th. Please stay tuned here at the Rockstar Newswire for all announcements about GTAV between now and game release as we definitely still have more to officially reveal.

As a specific note to our Social Club community, please remember Rule #1 right above the Comment Box. Please do not proliferate such things here as we certainly don’t want any misinformation spread from things that are fake nor do we want spoilers spread regarding anything that might be true. Anyone engaging in such discussion here at the Rockstar Newswire before September 17th will have commenting privileges revoked until well after the game’s release. Thank you all for your understanding and your support.

What is the leak? Not entirely sure and I don't want to know. I honestly don't think it would matter what it is since the game is less than a month away. But I'm sure you want to keep yourself spoiler-free up until release. So let's focus on the good news coming from this - Rockstar is done developing GTA V. Nothing can stop it now from releasing on September 17.

Just in case you missed it, our first ever giveaway is currently on-going. One lucky reader will get a chance to get a PS3 copy of GTA V on release day on us! Get all the details here. Take note: Giveaway is only available to readers in the Philippines.

Pixelated Final Fantasy 7 Figures

3d printed cloud

Final Fantasy VII on the original PlayStation was the first role playing game I have ever played. Going on a whim and asking my brother to buy all 3 discs for me because my friends said it was a good game introduced me to the wonderful genre that is JRPGs. With it being the first 3D Final Fantasy game and it originally developed for the Nintendo 64, the out of battle graphics weren't that great.

The pixellated chibi meat arm characters that we all know and love never got the figure treatment in their overworld forms. I understand that their meat arms were due to graphical limitations at the time and did not represent their true appearance but nostalgia is a big thing to us folks who grew up in the 90s.

3d printed ff7 Artist Joaquin Balding took it to himself to print out little FF7 figurines using a 3D printer and sold there tiny beauties online for around $15 a pop. This excited many a gamer as it perfectly captured their pixely goodness. Square Enix, however, sent Shapeways (the 3D-printing shop that Balding was using to create and sell the figures) received a takedown notice last week and the figures were immediately pull off the market. This is saddening news but Square Enix is known for defending its intellectual properties and they are well in their right. Let's just hope that Square Enix takes a hint that there's a market for those kinds of figures and maybe they'll release their own set.
