Next Up Hero Announced, Hits Steam Early Access This Fall
/Developers Digital Continue has announced their new game called Next Up Hero, a 2D action adventure with an interesting mechanic once you die.
In Next Up Hero, when your character dies, he leaves an Echo of himself that the next hero can pick up as he continues where you left of. The current player will be able to summon these echoes following him to become an AI companion, aiding you in the fight. Based on a trailer, there are bosses to go through and it looks like summoning the fallen heroes before you will be your last ditch effort when things get a bit dicey.
There will be nine heroes available on launch with a series of weapons and abilities at your disposal. It will have rogue-like levels, which means all levels are procedurally generated, and since there's a mechanic that allows fallen characters to aid the current one going through the game, it's safe to say this is being built to be on the tough side.
Digital Continue was founded by Joe Tringali, co-founder of 5TH Cell, who is known for games like Scribblenauts, Lock's Quest and Drawn to Life.
Next Up Hero will hit Steam's Early Access program this fall. It is planned for a Q1 2018 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux. It will be priced at $19.99 on release.
