40-player Battle Royale Fighting Game Byte Breakers Announced, Playtest Announced
/Developer Odyssey Interactive is approaching its next project differently by showing one of its prototype games called Byte Breakers, a 40-player battle royal fighting game similar to Super Smash Bros. It’s so early in the development stage that based on player feedback, they “might not even make this game.”
It’s one of the many prototypes the studio has come up with as the Omega Strikers developers want player feedback before pouring more resources and time into developing Byte Breakers. They wanted to hear from the players themselves if this was a project worth pursuing, so they announced the game’s first playtest on Steam on September 13 in North America.
How to play Byte Breakers
You must head to Byte Breaker’s Steam page and request access. They plan to invite a small amount of players to the playtest and those who get in are free to create content or talk about the game with their friends or people online.
Here’s a rundown of what Byte Breakers is all about via its Steam store page:
Byte Breakers is a platform fighting battle royale for 40 players. Navigate a massive city, gear up, and escape the encroaching glitch zone while battling the world to become the last duo standing.
The prototype version of Byte Breakers contains no in-game purchases, though future content may require separate purchase from the in-game store and may be subject to availability.
Massively Multiplayer Platform Fighting
Team up with friends to fight the world in massive 40-player lobbies
Use wicked abilities to smash people into the wall at like 95mph
Escape the glitch zone and try not to int to become the last team standing
Game-Breaking Gameplay
Divebomb at mach speed from great heights to crush unsuspecting enemies below
Defeat AI goons to gather powerful gear like dash boots that let you run up walls
Find “hacks” that can do things like turn your shield into a meaty death ball
Help the Homies
Bust out disgusting Team Assist abilities to wallhack TP to your allies
Carry your compadre’s dead, useless cadaver to a respawn beacon and give ‘em another chance at life
Share items and powerups for when your gang gets absolutely starched by one of the devs who’s already played for 2,000 hours
If Byte Breakers isn’t a game worth pursuing, Odyssey Interactive plans to show other prototypes their team has been working on and show to the public early for more feedback before committing to anything.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
