Alone in the Dark Reboot Launching on October 25, Playable Demo Now Available
/THQ Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive revealed during the Alone in the Dark reboot’s spotlight event revealed that the game will launch on October 25, 2023. There is also a playable prologue demo that sets up the player for the main game and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
It’s a short demo called Grace in the Dark, which gives players an idea of the game’s tone. You play as a kid named Grace Saunders who goes off to do an errand and it doesn’t go as planned.
If you want to get more of a feel of the reboot, check out the spotlight event above, which revealed the protagonist Emily Harwood will be played by actor Jodie Comer (Free Guy) and private investigator Edward Carnby will be played by David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow). In Alone in the Dark, players can choose to experience the path of either Emily or Edward as they explore Derceto Manor and all of its secrets.
This is a reimagining of the original classic game Alone in the Dark that was released back in the 90s. It was announced back in August 2022 and this spotlight event was the first time we see actual footage of the game in action.
With the remake now having a release date, pre-orders for the game are now live.
Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect from the game, according to a press release provided by the publisher.
Explore Derceto Manor in this reimagination of Alone in the Dark, a love letter to the 90’s cult classic horror game! Set in the gothic American South in the 1920s, Alone in the Dark features a noir setting with classical Lovecraftian horror elements, where the familiar meets the surreal.
Return to the roots of psychological horror and experience an atmospheric journey worthy of the game that started the genre.
Dive into a world full of sounds that make your skin crawl with a haunting, yet mesmerizing doom jazz soundtrack.
Enjoy the thrill of desperate survival in a world where reality starts to crumble, evil lurks in every shadow and ammunition is scarce.
Experience this nightmare from either Emily Hartwood’s or Edward Carnby’s perspective and unearth the dark secrets of a gothic mansion.
Immerse yourself in a deep psychological story that goes beyond the realms of the imaginable, by Mikael Hedberg, cult horror writer of SOMA and Amnesia.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
