Capcom launches a countdown website and it might be for Street Fighter 6
/Update 1: The countdown was for the reveal of Street Fighter 6. Capcom plans to provide more information sometime in Summer 2022.
Capcom has launched a new website that contains just a countdown clock for an announcement of sorts. The countdown has no other detail to give a clue at what it could be but I wouldn’t be surprised that it turns out to be our first look at Street Fighter 6.
You can check out the countdown site here. Based on the countdown, we’ll find out what it’s all about on February 21 1 AM EST / February 21 2 PM GMT +8.
With the countdown ending after the Capcom Pro Tour Season Final event for Street Fighter V, the timing is rather convenient for a big announcement. The tournament kicks off on February 17 and will conclude on February 20.
Usually in these big events, Capcom tend to tease their community on what’s next for the fighting game, but since Season 5 is now out in the wild and is the last batch of post-DLC planned for Street Fighter V, we might just get a tease of what’s next for the Street Fighter franchise.
During the last developer showcase for the game last year, the developers teased the new DLC character Luke as a “key player in the future of Street Fighter”, suggesting that the new character is linked to a new Street Fighter game somehow.
All we can do is wait and speculate as Capcom isn’t saying much about it. It can still be something else entirely as there has also been rumors about a possible tease on another Resident Evil remake game, but a Street Fighter 6 announcement is my best bet for now as this is also the year Capcom will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of Street Fighter this August.
