Dead by Daylight Will Start 2023 With Changes to Survivor UI, Nurse, and Knight Tweaks
/The folks at Behaviour are back from the holidays and have released a January 2023 Developer update for Dead by Daylight, announcing big improvements coming to their 4v1 online horror game, such as improvements to Survivor UI, Nurse changes, Knight tweaks, a Challenge Tracker, and changes to the Eyrie of Crows map.
The January 2023 Developer update highlights the biggest changes but it isn’t clear if allo of those changes will be available in the game’s next big patch.
For starters, solo Survivors will have more information to work with as players will be able to know what other players are doing in the match just by the icons of the characters at the bottom left. Ideally, this gives solo players a better understanding on what needs to be prioritized to get the escape.
Another change is the permanent implementation of the new Wiggle mechanic, which has been in beta stages for a long time now. When the 6.5.0 update goes live, the new mechanic will be officially part of the game with a few changes to it, such as the removal of faster wiggle progress from great skill checks.
The Nurse Changes
As for Killers, The Nurse mains will have to play her with different perks as her blink attacks will no longer be basic attacks but special attacks, making certain perks such as No One Escapes Death, Starstruck, not a valid choice anymore. But it’s not all bad as The Nurse will soon have a new audio cue to know if you have all your blink charges restored, hopefully to make it easier to make quick decisions while in a chase.
Nurse add-ons are also being looked into. They havn’t fully detailed all the changes planned for the Killer’s addons but here are what’s mentioned so far.
“Bad Man’s” Last Breath
After hitting a Survivor with a blink attack, The Nurse becomes Undetectable for 25 seconds. This effect can only be triggered once every 45 seconds.
Jenner’s Last Breath
Once all blinks have been exhausted, The Nurse may teleport back to her original position. Once she returns to her original position, all blink charges are restored.
The full details for the changed add-ons can be found in the patch notes once the update goes live, but you can also expect changes for the following:
Catatonic Boy’s Treasure
Dark Cincture
Heavy Panting
Ataxic Respiration
Fragile Wheeze
Campbell’s Last Breath
Kavanaugh’s Last Breath
Torn Bookmark
Matchbox
The Knight Changes
The Knight as a killer isn’t getting the biggest praise and it looks like Behaviour’s first steps in making changes to the character is incentivising players to make longer paths. An odd change, but here’s how they are planning to change things up.
The orb creating the Knight’s patrol path will shrink in distance for Survivor’s point of view and will completely disappear when the path is longer than 10 meters.
A 10 meter path also gives The Knight the Haste status effect and the duration is based on the length of the patrol path.
Guards will move to the position of the Survivor they spotted faster only when the patrol path created is 10 meters long.
Generator regression from guards will be improved from the default 2.5% instant decrease to 5%.
10 second limit added to patrol path creation due to killers.
Eyrie of Crows changes
Lastly, they are making changes to the Eyrie of Crows map, which was introduced during the Portrait of a Murder Chapter.
The changes are aimed to make the map less Survivor favored as they plan to update the map to make it shaped more of a square than a long rectangle, ideally to make it easier for Killer to patrol key generators more easily. Another change is maze tiles will no longer be close to the main building, to lessen stronger loops. They are even adding foliage to the map to make it easier to hide traps, giving love to killers such as The Trapper and The Hag.
Other changes were also mentioned, such as a Challenge tracker that will be displayed in your HUD while in a match, allowing players to browse the Archives and in-game store while searching for a match, a better understanding with the MErciless Killer Ratings, and more cosmetics getting Iridescent Shard prices.
Together with the Developer Update, Behaviour announced that they will be extending the Bone Chill holiday event and the current Tome and & Rift as they have resolved the server issues the community experienced during the holiday season. As compensation for the server issues, players will earn a total of 500,000 Bloodpoints as daily logins this week.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
