Elder Scrolls Online Reveals 2025 Plans with Seasons of the Worm Cult and New Content Model
/During the 2025 ESO Direct, ZeniMax Online Studios revealed the main content heading to Elder Scrolls Online this year — Seasons of the Worm Cult. The announcement also highlighted a major shift in how content is delivered, with the developers moving away from the annual Chapter model to allow more experimentation and variety in future updates.
Elder Scrolls Online's New System – 2025 Content Pass
The big change this year is the introduction of the 2025 Content Pass, replacing the traditional Chapter model. Instead of purchasing a single large expansion, players can now access all of 2025’s planned content through this pass, which includes:
Seasons of the Worm Cult Parts 1 & 2
Two dungeon packs: Fallen Banners (available now) and Feast of Shadows (arriving Fall 2025)
A new large-scale Writhing Wall in-game event
The 2025 Premium Edition of the Content Pass will also include all previous ESO Chapters, including Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, Greymoor, Blackwood, High Isle, Necrom, and Gold Road.
Seasons of the Worm Cult Breakdown
This two-part storyline is the centerpiece of this year’s content. Part 1 arrives on June 2 for PC/Mac, and June 18 for Xbox and PlayStation. Part 2 is scheduled to release later in 2025.
The story brings players to the island of Solstice, which is split in half by the Writhing Wall — a massive magical barrier tied to the mysterious and dangerous Worm Cult. This marks the first time a story arc continues from the base game’s original narrative.
Writhing Wall Event
Later this year, players will be able to participate in the Writhing Wall Event — a collaborative, world-changing event where the community must join forces to succeed in the event in order to unlock access to the second half of the zone and the story. This event directly leads into Part 2 of Seasons of the Worm Cult.
2025 Dungeon Packs
Also included in the Content Pass are two new dungeon packs:
Fallen Banners – Available now
Feast of Shadows – Arriving Fall 2025
Each pack contains two unique four-player dungeons, offering distinct storylines, challenges, achievements, and rewards. These are group-based PvE activities ideal for those seeking lore-rich mini-adventures with friends or guildmates.
New Systems: Subclassing & Hero’s Return
Alongside Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1, Update 46 will be released as a free base-game patch in June. It introduces two major features:
Subclassing
Players can now replace up to two of their class’s Skill Lines with ones from other classes. This new system opens the door to highly customizable, hybrid builds that better reflect a player’s preferred playstyle.
Hero’s Return
This new system is designed for returning players who may have been away from ESO for a while. Hero’s Return acts as a reintroduction to the game, easing players back in with helpful onboarding and in-game rewards for completing the experience. It’s the perfect way to catch up and re-immerse yourself in Tamriel.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows greatly blends the classic Assassin’s Creed stealth with the RPG elements of recent entries. Its dynamic world, seasonal changes, and improved stealth mechanics make exploration a joy, but Yasuke’s restrictive gameplay, overall story, and a half-baked notoriety system hold it back.
