Experience Gained in Diablo IV’s Nightmare Dungeons Will Soon Be Buffed
/During Blizzard’s first Diablo IV Campfire Chat livestream after launch, the developers addressed a few issues and updated the community on what they are planning to do based on player feedback and the current state of the game. One of the topics they discussed is Nightmare Dungeons as they are soon planning to improve it by improving the experience gained through these activities.
Diablo IV’s best method of earning experience isn’t Nightmare Dungeons, and they want to fix that
As of this writing, if you want to be as efficient as possible in Diablo IV, the best method for earning experience is by doing specific dungeons with the most enemies inside the activity. It’s about the amount of monsters you can engage inside, nothing else. It doesn’t matter what objective is in the dungeon, high-level players would go in, kill most of the monsters inside, even ignoring the dungeon boss, then get out and reset the dungeon. Rinse, and repeat. More monsters to kill also result in more loot drops. Since launch, Blizzard has been nerfing dungeons that are spots for this farming method.
With how Blizzard is reacting to how the top 5% of players playing the game, it’s evident that they want to steer the community into doing multiple activities other than just doing one dungeon repeatedly, thus the mention of Blizzard buffing Nightmare Dungeon’s experience gains as the only reason you want to do these type of dungeons is to upgrade the glyphs you use in your Paragon Board. The discussion regarding dungeons starts at the 46-minute mark of the video above.
Aside from improving the amount of experience gained in Nightmare Dungeon, Blizzard is working on cutting the travel time between Dungeons, allowing a player to be teleported to their next Nightmare Dungeon once they activate its Sigil. Right now, when you activate this activity, you have to manually go to the nearest waypost and then physically travel to that dungeon. They want to remove that travel time and make it the most efficient way to farm experience in the game.
Blizzard is currently working on this as they plan to apply these changes before Diablo IV’s season 1 launches mid or late July.
Renowns carrying over through seasons were also addressed
Another topic discussed was the renown and regional rewards carrying over each season. In the game, players doing activities like Strongholds, dungeons, side quests, and unlocking Lilith Statues (that earn permanent stat buffs across all characters) will result in you earning Renown for that region. With enough Renown earned, you’ll unlock rewards such a skill points and further improve your character.
The worry in the community is that each season, that whole progress of earning Renown and unlocking the open world all over again feels tedious and discouraging, and I agree with that assessment as I don’t want to wander around the world map unlocking all the Altar of Lilith all over again for the same rewards at the start of a season. At the 57-minute mark, they address this by stating that once a new season begins, all the Altars of Lilith you’ve unlocked, the Renown rewards you’ve unlocked (skill points, potion capacity, etc), and the parts of the map you’ve revealed will all carry over. Right now, activities like dungeons and side quests will be reset.
It’s a very insightful developer talk. A casual one that I suggest you go over as they cover other hot topics, such as gems taking up storage space or a Necro’s ability making it hard for players to see deadly effects in the ground.
Diablo IV is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
