Final Fantasy XIV Online’s New Melee Job is Called Viper
/During the keynote at the Final Fantasy XIV Online’s Fan Festival event in London, Square Enix revealed the first of its two new classes coming to the upcoming expansion Dawntrail and it’s a melee DPS Job called the Viper, wielding dual swords that can fuse and become a single blade.
Localization supervisor Micael’Christopher Koji Fox describes the new class as “technically demanding but highly stylish”.
Have a look at the new Job in action below.
During the keynote, director and producer Naoki Yoshida kept the tradition by coming to the stage cosplaying as the new Job, complete with dual swords on hand.
The Viper Job will start at level 80 and players can expect to pick up the Job in Ul’dah, one of the MMORPG’s three major cities.
The Viper melee Job seems like another unique concept first seen in Final Fantasy XIV Online, as most of the Jobs found in the game are based on Jobs seen in previous Final Fantasy titles such as the Black Mage or Ninja.
An extended version of the Dawntrail expansion trailer was also released, showing new shots as well as the Viper class in clear CGI fashion.
As for the second DPS class coming in the Dawntrail expansion, Square Enix is keeping quiet and will likely reveal it during the Fan Festival in Japan happening in January 2024. What we do know is the second DPS class to be introduced will be a ranged.
The upcoming expansion called Dawntrail is a new beginning for the MMORPG as this new expansion aims to start a new story as they’ve recently concluded the ‘Dark and Light’ story arc that started at the very beginning of the game.
Dawntrail feels more lighthearted and emits a vacation pirate-y feel as key characters journey to a new continent called Tural.
Dawntrail is set to launch in the Summer of 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and for the first time — Xbox Series X|S.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is now my favorite title from the Persona team by far. It’s one of those rare games where its main pillars work harmoniously, and you get lost in its charm. It’s a pristine JRPG, with enough style and substance to satisfy hardcore JRPG fans, Persona fans, and even those who rarely touch JRPGs.
