Free-to-Play Monster Hunter-Style Game Dauntless Shutting Down on May 29
/Developer Phoenix Labs have announced that their free-to-play Monster Hunter-style online game Dauntless will be shutting down on May 29 at 11:45 PM PT / May 30 2:45 AM ET, making the game unavailable for play as this live service game doesn’t feature offline.
The announcement was done through social media. It was short and simple as they revealed no additional content or updates are coming with a simple line to end the post - “Thanks to all for being a part of the Dauntless journey”.
The game was originally planning a major update called “Umbral Reign” for January 2025 but was delayed until further notice. Now, it’s not coming out at all.
This was sadly expected as developer Phoenix Labs has been hit with major layoffs in the last few months. In January, the studio laid off the majority of its staff. before that, the studio announced that any future projects were put on hold to focus on Dauntless and their other game Fae Farm. That wasn’t enough to keep things afloat for the company, it seems.
The remaining question is, what happens to what remains of Phoenix Labs? Will they announce the studio’s closure before or after Dauntless’ shutdown? It’s likely but time will tell.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows greatly blends the classic Assassin’s Creed stealth with the RPG elements of recent entries. Its dynamic world, seasonal changes, and improved stealth mechanics make exploration a joy, but Yasuke’s restrictive gameplay and a half-baked notoriety system hold it back. After 30+ hours, it’s shaping up to be a strong entry, but will it stick the landing?"
