MultiVersus Open Beta Is Not Available in the Philippines and Other Asia Countries
/[Update 3/13/2024]: MultiVersus is going back online and officially launching this May 2024.
The free-to-play platform fighter MultiVersus just hit open beta and is looking to be a promising hit for developer Player First Games, but unfortunately the game is currently not available in the Philippines, Japan, and other Asian countries.
This has come as a surprise as the game was available for play for those that got early access to the game a week before open beta went live.
Many have expressed their frustrations through social media and when one asked MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh about it through Twitter, he confirms that Asia is simply not supported at the moment. He even suggest requesting refunds if you’ve made purchases.
This region lock affects all platforms.
With no official announcement as to where MultiVersus is available, we looked to SteamDB’s price listing and here are the regions MultiVersus currently does not support.
China
Hong Kong
India
Indonesia
Japan
Kazakhstan
Malaysia
Philippines
Russia
Singapore
South Korea
Taiwan
Thailand
Vietnam
This isn’t much of a big surprise as when I did have access to the game last week during its early access week there were not Asia servers available as Oceanic was the best option for the best ping possible. Regardless, there’s no widespread announcement from Player First Games or Warner Bros. to inform players which regions have access to the game, especially during a time when interest for the game is on a high, peaking over 150,000 concurrent players since its open beta went live.
For those not familiar, MultiVersus is a platform fighting game similar to Super Smash Bros. where iconic characters from the Warner Bros. brand duke it out in an arena. Characters such as Batman, Rick and Morty, Aria from Game of Thrones, Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny, Wonder Woman, and more are playable in the game. MultiVersus also launched with cross-play and cross-progression support across all platforms as well as rollback netcode for online play.
