Overwatch 2’s First PvP and PvE Hybrid Event Called Starwatch Now Live
/Blizzard’s free-to-play multiplayer for Overwatch 2 is hosting a new event called Starwatch: Galactic Rescue from now until May 22, 2023, on all platforms. It features a unique game mode on the transformed Horizon Lunar Colony Assault map.
Two teams face off on a four-point Assault match set in the spaceship called the Infinite Galactrius. The Watchers, led by Bonebreaker Doomfist, lead the assault as the opposing team defends the Infinite Empire.
Here are further details on the game mode from Blizzard:
Choose your side and join the fight
When you queue, you’ll choose to ally with the Watcher’s rebellion or join the Infinite Empire’s command. If your loyalties lie elsewhere, queue as a Mercenary to get into the next mission quickly and serve whichever side you’re assigned.
The Infinite Empire suffers no fools, and they’re well-equipped to stop any intruders. This team has special artillery throughout the facility that will attack the Watchers.
But the Watchers have help too. Bonebreaker will help aid this team as you charge in to rescue 3CH-0, portrayed by Echo. Both teams will want to take advantage of the Gravity Implosion Barrels throughout the facility, as destroying the container will unleash a small, yet powerful black hole that will catch anyone in its wake, leaving them vulnerable to attack.
It’s a nice twist and a good look at how Blizzard will be implementing PvE content as players in the unique game mode go against PvE threats and goes into a downstate, giving your team time to pick you up instead of waiting for the usual respawn timer.
For those interested in the lore of the conflict between The Watchers and the Infinite Empire, Blizzard released a motion coming which you can watch below.
You can also read it as a web coming here.
The conclusion of which team will win will be determined by the community as the team with the most wins by the end of the event be the victor and the outcome will be expressed with a second comic which will be released once the in-game event concludes.
Naturally, this event features new cosmetic rewards to earn such as Cosmic event challenges that reward players with an Asteroid Epic skin for the hero Wrecking Ball and 50,000 XP to help you in completing this season’s Premium Battle Pass. The in-game store now holds new limited-time bundles for those that want to represent either the Watchers side or the Infinite Empire side.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
