Riot Games’ Fighting Game Project L Will Be Free-to-Play

In the latest update on the upcoming fighting game from Riot Games titled ‘Project L’, executive producer of the game Tom Cannon announced that the game will be a free-to-play game, similar to Riot’s other titles like League of Legends and Valorant.

It looks like the 2v2 fighting game is shaping pretty well as the team working on the project is finalizing the core mechanics of the game and is shifting to making more content around its foundations.

Those involved in the project are fighting game veterans with Tom Cannon leading the charge, a known figure within the fighting game community as he’s one of the founders of EVO Championship Series, one of the biggest fighting game events in the world. He is also the founder of GGPO, which developed netback rollback, a sought after feature for fighting game titles as it heavily improves online functionality.

With Project L confirmed to be a free-to-play game, how they will handle monetization will be the next big question, but Tom assures in the video above that “When it comes to monetization, we promise to be respectful of both your time and your wallet.”

The team working on Project L also shared details of a new character Illaoi, detailing her fighting style, concept, and where she fits in the League of Legends universe.
