Sony Discontinuing PS5 Accolades Feature Because Players Hardly Use It

The PlayStation 5 will be one feature short in fall of 2022 as Sony announced they will be discontinuing the console’s Accolades features as players hardly use it.

The Accolades feature allows players to acknowledge a player's efforts in an online game by sending badges for being a team player, being helpful, playing a specific playstyle, and so on. The problem is, not many use the feature, and quite honestly, it’s likely that the majority didn’t know it exists.

it wasn't the best of ideas for the PS5 as it didn't have enough incentive to make use of the feature. If one does intend to use it, giving an accolade or being given one felt unnecessary. It also doesn't help that you rarely see the feature implemented in most games, making it not much of a surprise that Sony is no longer supporting the feature due to low player activity

Currently there’s word of a possible replacement or an exact date as to when they plan to remove the feature from the system. Hopefully we see Sony try to inject features that would encourage good sportsmanship to combat toxic behaviors as they “encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another”.
