The Blood of Dawnwalker Revealed, From Ex-Witcher 3 Devs
/Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia together with newly formed Polish studio Rebel Wolves debut our first good look at their upcoming single player open world RPG called The Blood of Dawnwalker with a cinematic trailer that features a sneak peek at in-game gameplay towards the end of the video.
This is the new project by former Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. Tomaszkiewicz co-founded the new studio and has been working on this project using Unreal Engine 5.
What is The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Set in the 14th century, The Blood of the Dawnwalker lets players take the role of Coen, a man that is not entirely human but not entirely vampire. The twist here is Coen has 30 days and nights to save his family, swear revenge on your sire, and “destroy everyone standing in your way”
“Inspired by classic RPGs, we want players to feel the sense of urgency in an open world game. There are multiple approaches to saving Coen’s family with no clear division between main and side quests, you decide on how you spend the time.”, explains Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director and Co-Founder of Rebel Wolves. “Time is a resource and with each quest progressing its passage, it is impossible to complete all stories and arcs before the dreadful deadline, making each playthrough unique. We call it a narrative sandbox.”
It’s an interesting twist — applying a deadline, making each time spent critical and encouraging multiple playthroughs. They added more weight to the game’s day and night cycle as the time of day dictators the types of skills and abilities available to the player and storyline outcomes. It’s a sandbox that plays around with the concept of vampires.
We’ll know more about The Blood of Dawnwalker as a full reveal of the game’s gameplay will debut sometime in Summer 2025. It could be a long way from release or close to a release window, we’ll find out soon enough as the studio was just established in 2022.
The Blood of the Dawnwalker is set to launch on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (through Steam)
Even in its current state, Path of Exile 2 overshadows much of the available ARPGs in the market today both in terms of quality and replayability. It sets a precedent, proving that the ARPG genre can still be improved. Grinding Gear Games are the tip of the spear that’s taking the ARPG genre into a new age of gaming.
