The Next Expansion for Guild Wars 2 Is Called Secrets of the Obscured, Out This August
/The long-running MMORPG Guild Wars 2 is getting a fourth expansion this August and it’s called Secrets of the Obscured, an expansion that’s changing things up with the inclusion of Buildcrafters, new legendary armor sets, a new mount mastery, and delving into one of Tyria’s biggest mysteries.
Have a look at the announcement trailer below.
With a new expansion comes new features, here’s a rundown of what to expect from Secrets of the Obscure.
What’s inside the Wizard’s Tower?
In terms of lore, fans of Guild Wars 2 will be excited to know that they will soon get to know what’s inside the Wizard’s Tower, a floating structure above Kessex’s Hills that has been one of the series’ biggest mysteries since Guild Wars 1.
The Wizard’s Tower will also serve as a new player hub. We will likely know how that will happen once we progress through the new expansion.
No new elite specializations, no problem
The next expansion is doing things differently in freshening up each class in the game. Instead of adding another elite specialization like previous expansions, Secrets of Obscure will introduce Battlecraft, a feature that introduces the Weaponmaster Training, which simply removes the requirement of equipping an elite specialization in order to use the weapon.
But this doesn’t mean the end of new weapon proficiencies for each class. They do plan to add new ones but only after the launch of the expansion.
Guardian: Axe (main hand), sword (off hand), longbow
Revenant: Shield (off hand), greatsword, short bow
Warrior: Dagger (main and off hand), pistol (off hand), torch (off hand)
Engineer: Mace (main hand), sword (main hand), hammer
Ranger: Dagger (main hand), hammer, staff
Thief: Scepter (main hand), rifle, staff
Elementalist: Sword (main hand), warhorn (off hand), hammer
Mesmer: Axe (main hand), dagger (main hand), shield (off hand)
Necromancer: Pistol (main hand), torch (off hand), greatsword
They expect to launch these new proficiencies six months after the new expansion’s launch.
The new Skyscale mount mastery
At least we get new masteries still in each expansion’s launch as the new skyscale mount Mastery will give you more movability for your flying mounts as you explore Tyria and its two new maps coming from the expansion.
The new flight masteries will allow players to unlock the ability to allow flying mounts to use leylines and updrafts.
New legendary armor set to grind for
For those looking for a new goal to grind for, the Secrets of Obscured expansion will introduce a new legendary armor set and the best part is this set can be earned through participating in the game’s PvE activities.
Guild Wars 2’s Secret of the Obscure expansion will launch on August 22, 2023, and will jump-start the first arc of a new story for the game. According to Steam, the new expansion is priced at P1,382 (~$25) in the Philippines, which is a price drop if you compare it to other expansions which cost $30.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
