Looks like Heroes of the Storm will be leaving beta very soon. Open beta starts on May 20, with the Blizzard MOBA officially releasing on June 2.
With the success of League of Legends, DOTA, and DOTA 2, MOBA has become one of the most played genre in this generation. Since it was born in Blizzard's backyard, it only made sense that they try to penetrate an already crowded scene. Heroes of the Storm is their take on the 5v5 battle arena, and they gave quite a twist to the formula.
If you've played MOBA's before, then you have an idea on what you're getting into. But don't consider it a carbon copy. With changes like the absence of items in the game and map objectives being the primary source of success, this is one game worth giving a shot for veteran and casual players alike.
Account wipes have stopped from what we know. So players should know that your progress will carry over as they move into open beta and then officially release on June 2. The game will come with 30 playable heroes (known characters from Starcraft, Diablo, and Warcraft) and 7 dynamic battlegrounds.

EA just announced the date for Battlefield 4's Open Beta. We'll get to try out the game on October 1 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The Open Beta will allow us to test out Battlefield 4's Conquest mode on Siege of Shanghai. What's weird is there's still no information about the exclusive early access promised for those that have Pre-ordered the Digital-deluxe version of the game, people that purchased the Medal of Honor Limited Edition, and of course Battlefield 3 Premium members. With the Open Beta hitting on the first day of October, it's most likely going to hit before then so we'll keep an eye out when EA talks about it.
Battlefield 4 will be out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 29, with the next-gen version for PS4 and Xbox One to come out on each console's launch date.
Happy Chinese New Year to all! ArenaNet founder and President Mike O'Brian posted interesting news about Guild Wars 2 in ArenaNet's official blog. Not only is this the year of the Dragon, but its the year for Guild Wars 2.
The post also mentions that they have recently concluded the closed beta of Guild Wars 2 and is now moving forward in opening the beta to a wider audience. Starting in February, they will be opening the beta to selected press and on March and April, they will be inviting more people to help test out Guild Wars 2.
While there is no official release date yet for Guild Wars 2, the last sentence of the post confirms that Guild Wars 2 will be on shelves this year. So Guild Wars fanatics, just hold your breathe for a little bit longer. Release is near.
This brought a smile to my face, but I'd be happier if they gave us a release date already so I can count the days. Does everybody else agree?
The Battlefield open beta came out on September 28(29 for us) and thanks to us gamers constantly playing Operation Metro on either the PS3, Xbox 360, or PC, the first changes based on feedback have been posted on the Battlefield blog.
Thanks to the Battlefield blog, here are the changes:
Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
Tweaked the Rank progression.
Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
Framerate stability fixes.
The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
Non working options in squad menu fixed: "Private" flag and "Switch Teams".
Current impressions of Battlefield 3's Open Beta...
Downloaded the Battlefield 3 beta in all 3 platforms. Yes, all three. I wanted to compare the difference with each versions of the game. So far the difference between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are the shadows. The Shadows for the PS3 seem too deep and distracting, the Xbox 360 in the other hand look a bit lighter and easier to look at. The PS3 and Xbox 360 both play well so there's no issue there. The PC version I couldn't test as much because of my PC giving constant Frame rate drops which slows the game, but looking around the PC version of Battlefield seems to have better quality graphics. You just need a beast PC to witness it.
Bugs are everywhere and can be easily spotted. Again this is the BETA, you get a feel of the gameplay but it isn't the final product. I have 3 hours for both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and the only game breaking bug that needs to be addressed ASAP is the falling in the world near the first COM-A. It's annoying, players who fell down the earth can still shoot players while bugged. I experienced it in both PS3 and Xbox 360, and Arlie witnessed while testing the PC version. Above is the bug played on the PC. Your best bet to get out of it is either constantly jump until your out or just do suicide.
There are a couple more bugs like killing a player right in the middle of him doing a melee animation kill. Doing so results you alive but in the ground unable to do anything but move around lying down. It's hilarious. Here's a video of the bug. It happens during the start of the video.
Others bugs are graphic glitches, freezes, party system splitting the group when joining a match, and more. Yes, it's the beta but there's so many bugs showing up for a game coming out in a few weeks. The overall gameplay and feel of the game is great, but bugs are bugs. With no vehicles present, I wonder if they tested the vehicles enough to be bug free on launch. I'm sure its crunch time over at DICE, cause from what I'm experiencing, they have a lot to work on.
Hopefully the next batch of fixes will clear most of the bugs when the game releases on October 25. I'm getting it on the PS3 to play with some buddies. I prefer the PC for FPS games especially Battlefield but my PC can't run it that well because of it's fail specs. What about you? what platform are you getting Battlefield 3?
While Xbox 360 players get first access to Call of Duty DLC, Battlefield 3 DLC will be released in the PS3 a week earlier before the Xbox 360. A week isn't so bad compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC getting released on the Xbox 360 a month earlier.
Tommy Rydling, junior product manager for Battlefield 3 announced it on the official Playstation Blog. Whats the first DLC? it's called Back to Karkand and is said to be released sometime this year. The DLC will provide 4 famous maps from Battlefield 2. I was expecting this to happen for the PS3 since Xbox 360 is already all over the Call of Duty franchise, but this 1 week early access is honestly nothing to the 1 month early access in the Xbox 360 for Black Ops. With Modern Warefare 3, I Wouldn't be surprised if they continue releasing DLCs to 360 players a month earlier.
This isn't the only news from the post, they also announced that the open beta of Battlefield 3 will be out on the PSN for download. The Open Beta starts on September 29th to October 10th.
If you actually purchased the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor then you can get into the Open Beta a week earlier. So owners of the Limited Edition can test Battlefield 3 on September 27, 2 days earlier.
There will only be one map I believe for the Open Beta, and that will be Operation Metro, the map they always use to show off the multiplayer part of Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3 will be out on October 25 in NA, 27 for Australia, and 28 for Europe. With Datablitz having pre-orders for Battlefield 3, the game release for the Philippines will be Oct 25.
