Recent Buys: Episode 2 - Of Souls and Swords

souls come on to me

I know February just started but things happened (me watching a bunch of videos on the internet) that ended up with my getting a new game.

Up until a few days ago I had absolutely no interest in Soul Calibur V, then Maximillian’s videos of it. Early on it looks just like any other Soul Calibur game but then I started seeing some of the super and ex moves and that made me go “whoa! That looked cool”. Now I know that supers in SC aren’t new but with me not playing since SC2 I got caught off guard. Max then brought the game online and it sounded like SC5’s netcode is really good which peaked my interest even more because, from experience, fighting games and online don’t really mix all that well. Caught a SC5 stream from CrossCounterAsia too and watching the players go at it while hearing the commentators totally geek out about the game was like throwing gasoline into the fiery pit that is my hype. I looked a bit online in formus both local and worldwide and they also said that the netcode is something that Project Soul can brag about. So yeah, I caved.

After playing some matches online, and losing most of em, I gotta say that the definitely were true to their word. For the most part the game is really responsive online and I’ve only experienced that “UMvC3 style” input lag once and even then it was still very playable.

It’s a bitch that there are a ton of characters to unlock but I guess that we’ve been spoiled by fighting games of this generation that have all the characters already unlocked from the get go.

I’ve been playing this game using an arcade stick and the move from pad to stick here is easier and feels a lot less awkward.

Soulcalibur V DLC Announced

Soulcalibur V isn't even out yet but Namco Bandai wants to give you the heads up on the DLC packs for the game.  It's nothing like an extra character or anything, just more items to customize your characters with like bikinis, wings, kimono, the usual DLC we love/hate.

These DLC packs will also include original music from past Soulcalibur games, which sounds like a good addition since it's priced $1.99 or 160 MS points each pack. There's three packs mentioned and one of them will be accessible on launch day.

Here's each pack in detail:

Pack 1: Launch Day

  • Nine exotic customization items including bikinis, wings and face paints
  • Original music from Soul Blade and Soulcalibur (tracks also available individually for $.99 or 80 MS points)

Pack 2: Valentine’s Day February 14th

  • Nine fearsome customization items including breast plate, kimono and animal heads
  • Original music from Soulcalibur II and III  (tracks also available individually for $.99 or 80 MS points)

Pack 3: February 28th

  • Nine exclusive customization items including mask, face paint, camouflage and skull
  • Original music from Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur : Broken Destiny (tracks also available individually for $.99 or 80 MS points)

Not fond if these kinds of DLC but if your into the customization part of the game, you might get a kick out of this. Soulcalibur V is out in January 31 on North America and February 3 in Europe on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Soul Calibur V - Meet Ezio Auditore

Ezio joining Soul Calibur V Namco Bandai always tends to add famous characters outside the Soul Calibur world. Past games have added famous characters like Darth Vader, Yoda, Link, and with this new trailer it looks like their staying true to the tradition by adding a character that just got famous a few years ago. For the latest installment in the Soul Calibur series, we have Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed joining the fray. Here's first look at Ezio in Soul Calibur V.

Ezio won't be an exclusive character, the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the game will both have the famous Assassin. Soul Calibur V will be out on February 3, 2012 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

E3 2011: Soul Calibur V Gameplay Trailer

They just announced Soul Calibur V and I'm impressed that they were able to release a gameplay trailer for E3. Last time I heard about Soul Calibur V it was currently 10% compete and if this is the game at its early stages I can't wait for more gameplay footage as they get closer into finishing the game.

The game so far looks great. Game play seems more fast paced compared to previous games and it looks like their adding some super moves into the mix, very nice. With the additions of super moves, you'll see a lot more juggles now in Soul Calibur, which is not a bad thing. No release date yet, only information about release is that it will be out on 2012. Excited?
