After One Year, Horizon Zero Dawn Has Sold Over 7.6 Million Copies
/It's been more than a year since Guerrilla Games has released their new franchise Horizon Zero Dawn and this PS4 exclusive is an example of how proper execution on all fields can make a single player experience successful. Today, the studio announced that they have sold over 7.6 million copies.
This makes Horizon Zero Dawn the most successful new first-party franchise launch in PS4's history.
“We had huge ambition for Horizon Zero Dawn and as we approached the launch we knew people were excited, but to see sales of this volume is truly mind-blowing. Since launch, millions of players have joined Aloy on a quest to discover the secrets of the old ones. We
hope they enjoy playing Horizon Zero Dawn as much as we enjoyed making it,” said Hermen
Hulst, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Guerrilla Games.
In celebration of the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, players can head on over to the PlayStation Store to get free PS4 avatars for their account, featuring characters in the game. They are also giving away a Photo Mode theme that contains some fan-made Photo Mode snaps.
It's great to hear all the success and praise for Horizon Zero Dawn. It was a solid risk - a studio more known to make FPS games (Killzone franchise), a completely new franchise, plus it was a single player only experience released in one console. It paid off and not only does Sony now have a strong, likable female character like Aloy behind the PlayStation flag, expect more games in the Horizon Zero Dawn world and more new franchises with similar risks.
During the September 25 State of Play broadcast, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered coming to the PS5. The same game but with improved graphical fidelity and animation to make the first game look almost similar to the quality seen in its sequel Horizon Forbidden West.
