Last of Us Creative Director Is Now Vice President At Naughty Dog
/Long-time creative director Neil Druckmann has just been promoted to Vice President of Naughty Dog. It was announced through the company's website.
Druckmann has been at Naughty Dog since 2004. He started as a programmer on Jak and Jak X: Combat Racing. He later served as a designer for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune where he developed a close association with the franchise. On Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, he served as lead game designer. His biggest role was on The Last of Us, where he was tasked to lead that game's development as its creative director.
The Last of Us is arguably one of Druckmann's crowning achievements, and he continued to serve as a creative director by taking over from Amy Hennig and Justin Richmond on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Although his new role at Naughty Dog comes with new responsibilities, the company confirmed that Druckmann will continue his responsibilities as creative director for The Last of Us Part II.
Together with Druckmann's promotion, a few other people have taken on new responsibilities at the company. Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau are now joint game directors for The Last of Us Part II. Both Newman and Margenau have been at the company since Uncharted 2's development cycle, leading the design department at the company. Emilia Schatz and Richard Cambier will take over Newman and Margenau's positions as lead designers.
There’s just not enough meat to justify the use of the term “remastered” in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Visually, the improvements here are minimal, and even without it, the original The Last of Us Part 2 can still go toe-to-toe with the biggest games released today. The real highlight is No Return and the option to play at true 4K resolution as everything else feels like padding.
