An Internet Connection Is Needed To Attach the PS5 Slim’s Attachable Disc Drive
/The upcoming bundles of the new slim PlayStation 5 were spotted in the wild in preparation for its launch this November, and thanks to the photos taken of the box, folks noticed a disclaimer saying that you’ll need to connect to the internet to complete the installation process of the attachable disc drive for the digital version of the new model.
“Internet connection required to pair Disc Drive…” says in the box as this is likely a security measure to ensure the attached device is a legitimate Sony product and not a third-party product.
The one thing that isn’t clear with this requirement is if you always need to be online to use the disc drive. Just like online purchases, you can’t play any of what you’ve purchased in the PlayStation Store without going through a verification process that happens in the background.
This is naturally problematic as this is a hardware product, not software, so the concern is valid. Hopefully, Sony clears things up on how the installation process will work for the attachable disc drive, especially for those who don’t have a constant internet connection.
The new PlayStation 5 model is launching this November and this model’s volume was reduced by 30% as it’s 18-24% lighter than previous models. The specs inside are rough but the digital version has the biggest change as you have the option to get an attachable disc drive in the future to play physical games.
Sony also revealed the price ranges for the new PS5 for countries in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
