Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Launches on August 25
/From Software and Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will launch on August 25 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. To celebrate, a new gameplay trailer was also released.
But that’s not all as PlayStation released a post revealing a lot of information about the Armored Core IV: Fires of Rubicon.
For starters, you play as an augmented mercenary piloting a customizable mech and the story takes place on a planet called Rubicon, where a powerful energy source called “Coral” has been discovered. Thanks to this new resource also being volatile, the planet has experienced a massive disaster that nearly turned Rubicon to ash. But resources this valuable can’t be overlooked despite the now hazardous environment, so megacorps fight to take control of the Coral.
As you saw in the trailer, there will be massive boss battles in this title and they will vary in size. Armored Core IV: Fires of Rubicon will also feature multiple endings and new paths in the game’s narrative can be opened up through multiple playthroughs.
The post also details two new features coming in Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. One is Assault Boost, which is the ability for a player to switch from long-range fights to close-range melee with a press of a button.
“Assault Boost is an offensive action that helps close the gap between enemies and lets you quickly go from long distance to close range,” says game director Masaru Yamamura to PlayStation.
The other feature that’s new to the series is Stagger, which allows players to put an opposing AC overloaded and out of commission for a short time. All a player needs to do is get in and constantly hit a target hard to build enough stagger damage to put the AC in this state, making pressure an important factor during AC vs AC battles.
Armored Core’s Arena game mode is back!
It is also confirmed that the game will feature the fan-favorite Arena game mode, where players can go against a series of highly specialized mechs in the form of a training exercise. “There are a lot of different AC frames and a lot of colorful characters to fight in the Arena, so we hope the players confront them all and aim for the top rank.” says Yamamura. Some mechs found in the arena might be even found on missions as well.
For those unaware, the Dark Souls and Elden Ring developers were first known for their work on the Armored Core series back in 1997 and it’s bittersweet to see the studio work on another title as it’s been 10 years since the last game.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
