Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 raised over 3 million for cancer research

Awesome Games Done Quick, a week-long video game speedrunning marathon event, raised over 3 million dollars for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This a new donation record for the annual event that delivered a virtual event for two years in a row due to the current state of the pandemic.

I’ve been watching this event for years and last week I had Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 in the background, picking up amazing speedruns with unique categories that spice up a new challenge from classic to recent titles.

It was a generally a smooth event as the folks at Games Done Quick managed to keep everything in check 24/7 for a whole week. All done mostly online in the safety of their homes. Last year, the event was able to raise $2,776,056, falling short in reaching the previous record held by Awesome Games Done Quick 2020, which earned $3,164,002, which was the first time the event reached the 3 million mark.

Last weekend, Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 beat the 2020 live event by raising $3,416,780. This was also the fastest time the event reached the 1 million donated mark as it breached that milestone on the event’s third day.

According to Games Done Quick’s donation tracker, the event featured a total of 148 runs and had 49,438 donations during the week.

Since the event started in 2010, Awesome Games Done Quick has now raised over $20 million mostly for Prevent Cancer Foundation.

If you missed out on specific speedruns, each one was recorded and uploaded on Games Done Quick’s YouTube channel. There were a lot of must-see runs, like the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Blindfolded run or the Pumpkin Jack run where speedruner Jaxler beat the world record by under 3 minutes, just to name a few.
