The folks working on the upcoming fighting game Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl released a series of gameplay videos showcasing iconic Nick characters battling out one-on-one, showing how deep and familiar the gameplay is and how this should be a title to look out for this year.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is an upcoming fighting game this year that will appeal to not only Nick fans but those that love the Super Smash Bros. gameplay of making your opponents fly off the screen to eliminate them. The initial trailer got us excited, but these latest videos courtesy of IGN show that the developers are serious in making a solid platform fighter that could rival titles currently at the top.

Wavedash, perfect dodge, the works!

It’s a familiar system if you played games like it and it’s impressive that they’ve applied specific movements and options for the player to us in order to have full control in a fight and have an answer to most situations. From being able to pull off a perfect dodge, wavedashing, to even airdashes. You can even grab projectiles and throw them back at your enemy or simply deflect them. So many options available. This game will be insane to watch fighting game pros play All-Star Brawl on a competitive level.

All-Star Brawl isn’t hiding what it wants to be as everything from the basics of knocking out your opponent to the more difficult movements that could give determined players an edge in a match. Yet another fighting game that could be easy to learn but hard to master.

No character audio?

One thing that many have noticed is the lack of voice work for these iconic Nickelodeon characters, and that seems to be the case for when the full game releases as voice actor Richard Horvitz (Invader Zim) confirmed over an Instagram live session that the game will not have voices for any of the characters at all, saying he did not do any recording for the game. You can feel the lack of no character audio more with the 4-player match video.

It’s a bit disappointing to not have these characters converse with each other or react to what’s going on as it would have been a key component in this nostalgia trip for some players. Many would think it’s a weird choice to launch without character audio, but from a development standpoint, I bet it would be an expensive endeavor to bring the original voices for each one, especially when Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is aiming for a 2021 release.

The latest character to join All-Star Brawl’s roster is TMNT’s April O’Neal and CatDog.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
