The Duskbloods Isn’t Bloodborne 2, but It Definitely Fuels the Need for One

The Nintendo Direct focused on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 was packed with information, surprises, and concerns about Nintendo’s next flagship console. One of the biggest surprises? FromSoftware made an appearance to reveal its next title—The Duskbloods. While watching the gameplay trailer, I couldn’t help but think, Is this Bloodborne 2? even though I knew that wasn’t possible.

Will it ever happen? That’s a discussion for another time. But with The Duskbloods, FromSoftware is delivering the closest thing we might ever get. The level design and atmosphere scream Bloodborne. Just take a look at the trailer below.

It features FromSoftware’s signature grim world-building, the kind we’ve come to expect ever since Demon’s Souls. While the trailer doesn’t fully reveal what’s going on, the enemies look ready to test players. But this isn’t a traditional Soulslike—FromSoftware describes it as a PvPvE title, with multiplayer gameplay at its core. Up to eight players can join a single session.

It’s still unclear whether online play will lean more toward PvP or a mix of both. However, we’ll learn more soon—director Hidetaka Miyazaki is set to release a developer diary series called "Creator’s Voice," with the first episode dropping on April 4.

It was a shocking announcement—who would’ve expected FromSoftware to reveal its next game during a Nintendo Direct for the new Switch? Hopefully, FromSoftware and PlayStation are taking notice of the reactions worldwide, as many, including myself, were really hoping this had something to do with Bloodborne.

The Duskbloods marks the second FromSoftware title in which online multiplayer takes center stage. The studio is also set to release Elden Ring: Nightreign at the end of May 2025, a fast-paced spin-off where multiplayer is the main focus. It’s so online-driven that they even removed the ability to leave messages in the game world—a staple of the Souls series and Elden Ring.

This is the second soulslike title from FromSoftware where online multiplayer is the main focus of the game as they are set to release a PvE co-op spin-off game Elden Ring: Nightreign at the end of May 2025. It’s so online focused and fast-paced that they removed the ability to leave messages in the game world, a staple feature from the Souls series and Elden Ring.

The Duskbloods is set to launch sometime in 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
