Dead by Daylight Company Acquires Darkest Dungeon Developers Red Hook Studios
/The company best known for being the developer of the famous 4v1 online horror game Dead by Daylight has acquired Red Hook Studios, the developer best known for the Darkest Dungeon series.
“Today, we’re ecstatic to announce our acquisition of Red Hook Studios.” says Behaviour Interactive in a social media post announcing the acquisition. “Darkest Dungeon has long been a series we’ve admired, enjoyed (and maybe even lost a little sleep over) as fans, and the opportunity to welcome Red Hook as a fully independent studio under the Behaviour banner is nothing short of a thrill. We look forward to supporting Red Hook as they continue to do what they do best: put your sanity to the test.”
Tyler Sigman, Red Hook Studios Co-Founder shared what he thought of their team being part of Behaviour:
“Joining forces with Behaviour is exciting on multiple levels. They have demonstrated a commitment to allowing our team to continue developing Darkest Dungeon in the manner we know best, but with the benefit of their considerable knowledge and resources. We are stronger together than apart. Critically, there is a shared love of Darkest Dungeon, and with Behaviour’s help we can delve even deeper into the franchise.”
Red Hook is a small studi, and the acquisition will retain all 29 members and operate as an independent studio within Behaviour Interactive, gamesindustry.biz reports.
Behavior Interactive is progressing beyond the company responsible for the Dead by Daylight series as they’ve expanded in starting spin-off titles for the Dead by Daylight franchise and acquiring various companies in the last two years. The company acquired SockMonkey Studios in February 2023, Codeglue (now rebranded as Behaviour Rotterdam) in August 2023, and Fly Studio in early 2024.
This comes days after Behaviour Interactive announced that they have canceled a project called ‘Project T’ and the closure of Midwinter studio based in Seattle, which was working on the now cancelled project. Thanks, Game Developer.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
